Adult Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation ECMO Course 2020

After careful consideration, the organising committee have made the decision to postpone the ECMO Course at The Prince Charles Hospital (21st-24th April 2020). As you can understand, this decision was based on the unfolding situation of the Coronavirus (COVID-19).

This 4-day course will enable multidisciplinary teams with little ECMO experience to provide ECMO for patients with severe cardiac and respiratory failure. The course curriculum is designed to allow participants to train in a safe, team environment and perfect the technical and nontechnical skills needed to provide high quality ECMO care.

This course is for specialist doctors and trainees, nurses, perfusionists and allied health professionals involved in provision of ECMO.

All aspects of ECMO care will be covered over 4 days. The multidisciplinary participants will train to build individual core competencies in a simulated
environment that will enable them to fulfil their respective roles in a high functioning team environment.

The core components include:

  • Didactic lectures
  • Interactive physiology simulation
  • Hands on equipment training and circuit priming drills
  • Cannulation
  • High fidelity simulation-based trouble shooting exercises
  • Simulated hands on ECMO CPR training
  • ECMO transport

Electronic pre-reading materials and a pre-course questionnaire will be sent to all participants 4 weeks prior to the course. A post-course online
questionnaire will also be sent a week after the course.

We invite the participants to the course dinner at the end of day one. A certificate of attendance will be provided to all participants. Attendees will be
eligible to CPD points.
