The RBWH Perioperative Services team was proud to officially open eight upgraded sterile stores in September, as part of the Sterile Stores Project.<\/h4>\n

The project involved upgrading all sterile stores on Level 4 and 5, Ned Hanlon Building and Level 1, James Mayne Building to comply with AS4187 standards.<\/p>\n

Between September 2021 and August 2022, the project team installed and upgraded HEPA filters, air handling units, automatic doors, additional shelving to improve storage capacity and controlled air conditioning and humidity levels.<\/p>\n

Each room was also refurbished with new floors, walls and ceiling to comply with Infection Control standards.<\/p>\n

RBWH Assets and Infrastructure Project Manager Rubie Pagbilao said the construction was completed in five stages to allow continuity of services and avoid hospital interruptions.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe collaboration between key stakeholders, senior end-users, RBWH BEMS and Capital Projects Team, Formula Interiors (Builder), MODE Design (Principal Consultants), Cushway and Blackford Engineers, RCP Consultants (Superintendent) and M5 Advisors (Quantity Surveyors) was excellent,\u201d Ms Pagbilao said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe entire perioperative department were extremely patient and adjusted well to the movement of sterile stock whilst the construction was underway. It was a large task moving the sterile stock to temporary locations within the department and reinstalling the shelving and sterile stock once each room was completed.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m proud to have been part of such a shining display of RBWH team spirit.\u201d<\/p>\n

Elizabeth Strathdee, Assistant Nursing Director of RBWH Perioperative Services was thankful to the project team for their efforts to complete the project before the AS4187 compliance deadline in December 2022.<\/p>\n

RBWH Surgical and Perioperative Director Dr Barry O\u2019Loughlin and RBWH Nursing Director Surgical and Perioperative Services Kaylene Woollett also thanked everyone who helped and supported the project.<\/p>\n<\/div>
