Louise Oriti, Executive Director, Redcliffe Hospital<\/p><\/div>\n

Nowadays, with everyone on social media, it’s not unusual for our hospital to be mentioned on local community groups and pages. Over the weekend, I happened upon one of these posts from a patient talking about what they had heard and seen while at the hospital.<\/h4>\n

This particular post, and the 60 or so comments that followed, were overwhelmingly positive, with lots of good things to say about different wards and services – and our nurses in particular. It was wonderful to read all these patient experiences of nurses bringing their A-game and inspiring others to do the same<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Posts like this are a powerful reminder that our patients see and hear everything that goes on around them. Whatever a patient’s experience is with us, it’s something that they’ll share – on social media or around the dinner table with friends and family. Either way, it matters because it directly impacts our community’s confidence in our hospital. It’s another important reason why we do the right thing, even when no one is looking.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Raise it for Redcliffe Wishlist Grants<\/h2>\n

This year’s round of Raise it for Redcliffe Wishlist Grants closed last Friday night. Eighteen applications were received for this round, seeking support for projects ranging from less than $600 through to the maximum available of $10,000. The grant panel will be meeting next week, and we hope to announce successful projects before the end of the year.<\/p>\n

REDDY Fun and Fitness Christmas carols<\/h2>\n

Thanks to our REDDY Fun & Fitness team, everyone is invited to share more Christmas joy next Thursday and Friday afternoon with Christmas carols from Noon on both days. Special guests, Roar Performing Arts, will lead our Christmas carols. The invitation for both sessions should be in your Outlook calendar.<\/p>\n

\"\"St Vincent de Paul Christmas Appeal<\/h2>\n

At this time of year, the generosity of our hospital community never fails to make me proud.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday morning, St Vincent de Paul collected the donations and hampers that hospital wards and work units have been preparing for the past few weeks. It was a big job collecting all those donations, with an entire lecture room packed with boxes, bags, and buckets filled with everything needed to help 47 local families enjoy a brighter Christmas.<\/p>\n

Our thanks to REDDY Fun & Fitness for coordinating the appeal this year and to the hundreds of hospital staff who have donated items to make this possible.<\/p>\n

Leadership changes<\/h2>\n

After a full recruitment process, Jared Grayling has been permanently appointed as Director for Ambulatory and Outpatient Services. Please join me in congratulating Jared on his appointment.<\/p>\n

We’ve also welcomed Tracey Brighton back to Redcliffe as our Acting Director of Allied Health while Geoff Grima is away on leave. When Geoff returns on Monday, 19 December, he’ll be the Acting Executive Director while I’m on leave. Please make Tracey welcome.<\/p>\n

RAP Working Group Update next Thursday<\/h2>\n

In my last message, I invited everyone to a smoking ceremony with our RAP Working Group next Thursday morning. There have been some changes to that event, and it will now be in the Zen Den (next to Zouki Cafe), and instead of a smoking ceremony, we’ll be painting ‘Story Stones’ while sharing a yarn and a cupcake. The invitation for this event should also be in your Outlook calendar.<\/p>\n

On a personal note from me<\/h2>\n

I was fortunate to attend the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Activities Showcase on Wednesday at the Brighton Health Campus. Among the many presentations at the showcase was one presented by Dr Alan Yan, Elwyn Henaway, Leicha Wone-Grant, Mellissa Malley and Jemma Bruynesteyn on our Deadly RED Emergency Department pathway, an important research project that Dr Michelle Davison is leading.<\/p>\n

It was an excellent presentation by our team, and I know everyone at the showcase was impressed by their co-design approach. We’re all looking forward to seeing that work in publication very soon.<\/p>\n
