It is always a good day when I can share some of the great stories and happenings across our directorate, and today there is a lot to share.<\/h4>\n

The\u00a0Metro North Health Research Snapshot 2022<\/a>\u00a0has been released and it is good to see some of our amazing clinicians front and centre.<\/p>\n

Senior Dentist Dr Candy Fung and team are highlighted for a promising study focussed on tele-dentistry in the residential aged care sector, and advancements in oral hygiene assessment and care for older adults with disability.<\/p>\n

We have also established a dedicated research position focused on enhancing oral health practice and research. You can find out more about Dr Nicole Stormon and how she is hoping to improve the way we deliver care in the Snapshot.<\/p>\n

Take a bow Cooinda and Gannet House!<\/h3>\n

It seems to be every second week when I say great things about the teams at Gannet and Cooinda House.<\/p>\n

The Aged Care Quality and Assessment Commission conducted assessments recently to observe infection control defences at our service which prevent transmission and recognise and respond to symptoms of COVID-19.<\/p>\n

The assessment findings at both sites were nearly flawless! Thank you to all staff for the work that you do, and for making these residential aged facilities the best, and most homelike environments for our residents.<\/p>\n

\"Congratulations2023 COH Nurse of the Year<\/h3>\n

It took us a little bit of time to get to our COH Nurse of the Year, but eventually once available we had a wonderful time with the Halwyn residents and staff, our executive and representatives from QSuper.<\/p>\n

Congratulations to Selina Woodbridge, an Enrolled Nurse at the Halwyn Centre who is our 2023 COH Nurse of the Year<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

It was clear that Selina was a very deserving recipient, not only for the years she has dedicated to others but her compassion and commitment to the residents and the families at the Halwyn Centre.<\/p>\n

At the same time, we also took the opportunity to recognised a few of our Length of Service champions!<\/p>\n

\"KateNew appointment<\/h3>\n

There has been a lot of work over the past few years on strengthening our clinical governance across our service lines.<\/p>\n

Recently, we have continued that journey in COH Psychology Services with the successfull recruitment of a temporary Director Psychology.<\/p>\n

I would like to introduce and congratulate, Kate Vearncombe, Senior Neuropsychologist CCDT, and welcome her to the COH Allied Health Leadership Team.<\/p>\n

Kate is a highly experienced, dual trained clinician who has worked in many COH services and has experience in models of care development and referral pathways.<\/p>\n

This is officially our first designated COH Psychology Lead and as the profession grows we will continue to see great things happening.<\/p>\n

Celebrating our VIA and Length of Service Champions!<\/h3>\n

\"Health\"Health\"HealthThere has been many length of service celebrations occurring across our directorate in recent times, with the Oral Health Centre the latest centre to also celebrate these key staff milestones.<\/p>\n

At the same time, we acknowledged our Values
\nin Action champions!<\/p>\n<\/div>

\"Better<\/a>A better way to care<\/h3>\n

Recently, I attended the Metro North Health, Safety and Quality Accreditation Readiness Workshop where they highlighted a great publication from the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care \u2013 A Better Way to Care.<\/p>\n

This resource describes a pathway to improve the early recognition of, and response to, patients with cognitive impairment to reduce harm and ensure they receive safe and high-quality care.<\/p>\n

I encourage all staff to read the resource:<\/p>\n
