Opening of Redcliffe Hospital paediatric emergency department<\/p><\/div><\/p>\n

The Queensland Premier, Health Minister and Attorney-General joined us on Wednesday to celebrate the opening of our new paediatric emergency department section.<\/h4>\n

The new section became operational at 7am on Wednesday morning. In its first 24 hours, 32 paediatric presentations were cared for in this new section – providing safer and better care to children and their families<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Work toward the new section began in 2017, with clinicians like Dr Alan Yan advocating for the emergency department upgrade.<\/p>\n

In celebrating the new emergency department facilities, we also acknowledge the work of building and works contractors Apollo, Thomsen Adsett and Stantec, xBuro, and DCWC.<\/p>\n

Hospital Expansion update<\/h3>\n

While at Redcliffe on Wednesday, the Premier and Health Minister made some important announcements about the Redcliffe Hospital Expansion. Multiplex Constructions was also announced to lead the detailed design of the $1.148 billion Redcliffe Hospital Expansion. The expansion will provide the hospital with 204 additional beds. Expressions of interest are now being called for hospital staff to join user groups to support the hospital expansion in key priority areas.\u00a0Read more.<\/a><\/p>\n

Dr Josh Hatton<\/p><\/div>\n

Welcoming our new DMS<\/h3>\n

I’m pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Josh Hatton as our new Director, Medical Services. This appointment follows a national recruitment process, and we’re very excited to have Dr Hatton starting with us next week.<\/p>\n

Dr Hatton comes to us from NSW Health, where he has been the DMS at Auburn Hospital. Originally from Dubbo and spending much of his clinical career in Tamworth, Dr Hatton is a specialist medical administrator with experience in both metropolitan and regional settings as well as experience in both private and public sectors.<\/p>\n

Dr Hatton has moved to Brisbane with his wife and two young daughters to establish a long-term connection with Redcliffe Hospital and Metro North Health.<\/p>\n

Our new DMS is looking forward to getting to know our doctors and staff in the coming weeks, and I’d ask everyone to please make him welcome.<\/p>\n

Metro North Nursing and Midwifery Awards<\/h3>\n

Metro North Health’s Nursing and Midwifery Awards celebrate our nurses’ and midwives’ professional excellence and achievements.<\/p>\n

The awards were presented last week at a virtual ceremony.<\/p>\n

Redcliffe Hospital Nurse Practitioner\u00a0Sandra Warden was among those recognised – bringing home the award for Registered Nurse\/Midwife Leader of the Year, alongside Amanda Tully from the\u00a0Metro North Virtual ED team.<\/p>\n

Congratulations again to Sandra, and all those nurses and midwives nominated and receiving awards.<\/p>\n

Enterprise Scheduling Management (ESM)<\/h3>\n

\"ESM<\/a>Redcliffe Hospital will go live with Enterprise Scheduling Management (ESM) on Monday, 4 September 2023.<\/p>\n

ESM is the ambulatory outpatient scheduling module of the integrated electronic Medical Record (ieMR), and ESM will soon replace the outpatient scheduling functions of the HBCIS APP.<\/p>\n

Hospital staff identified as requiring training in the new system will now have received an email inviting them to complete the mandatory ESM training needed to use the new system. The first phase of this training is online and available through TMS.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019ve been identified as requiring this training, please complete it as soon as possible. If you need training in ESM and have not yet received an email, please talk to your line manager.<\/p>\n

\"MakingMaking it count – tip of the week<\/h3>\n

This week’s tip from Health Information Services about how we make all of our clinical work count is about how we document falls.<\/p>\n

\u200bFall without injury?<\/strong>\u00a0If admitted after assessment (no injury), the PDx should be the reason for admission \u2013 do not write fall<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Examples may include: Recurrent Falls, old-age debility, or \u200bprogression of Parkinson\u2019s Disease.<\/em><\/p>\n

Mandatories matter<\/h3>\n

Short notice accreditation starts on 1 July, and Redcliffe Hospital will be ready. If you haven’t already, please check to make sure your mandatory and requisite training is up to date.<\/p>\n

Thank you to our nurse educators for running sessions this week for medical and surgical service line staff to update their mandatory training.<\/p>\n

If you’re out of date with your training, please talk to your line manager as soon as possible.<\/p>\n<\/div>
