Community and Oral Health has had a lot to celebrate recently with the NAIDOC celebrations last week. There has also been music, coffee and a cooked breakfast for the tradies!<\/h4>\n

Brightening the patient experience through music<\/h3>\n

When we talk about great stories, here is another wonderful one thanks again to the Brighton Wellness Hub.<\/p>\n

Our Gannet House residents (in person) and Zillmere patients (participating online) were treated to a musical delight recently with a performance from the UA3 Pine Rivers ‘Sophisticated Folk’ choir.<\/p>\n

Since 2014, the choir has been visiting aged care and retirement centres to perform a repertoire of old music hall songs, as well as Scottish and Irish ballads and favourites from musicals like\u00a0The Sound of Music.<\/p>\n

Thanks to Katie Chan, and all of the staff from Gannet and Zillmere who supported this festivity of music, which has made our resident and patient’s experience so much better.<\/p>\n

\"COHCOH Connect Week continues at Nundah<\/h3>\n

Following on from COH Connect Week, the Community and Oral Health and Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital staff councils hosted a great staff event at Nundah Community Health Centre last Wednesday.<\/p>\n

When I arrived at Nundah, I was met by Anna Grasso who proudly and excitedly showed me the wonderful set up for the event.<\/p>\n

The purpose was to understand staff’s opinion on how we can be a more diverse and inclusive organisation, as well as to bring people together, to get involved and stay connected.<\/p>\n

\"COH\"COHOverall, the day was a great success with more than 80 staff sharing their views and many taking advantage of the free coffee on offer.<\/p>\n

A very big thank you to the coordinators and everyone behind the scenes who helped out.<\/p>\n

Thanks also go to the RBWH and COH staff councils for sponsoring the coffee cart.<\/p>\n

BEMs team and Men’s Shed<\/p><\/div>\n

Tradies breakfast<\/h3>\n

Also, recently I had the pleasure of catching up with the Building, Engineering and Maintenance (BEMs) team,\u00a0many of the trades staff who work in our facilities and members of the Sandgate and Districts Men’s Shed.<\/p>\n

As you can see it was an early rise but well worth it. Our COH tradies do a great job behind the scenes across all of our facilities and don’t expect any accolades for the work they do.<\/p>\n

Last financial year, our BEMs team delivered around $2 million in minor and major maintenance upgrades. You are all Shining Stars!<\/p>\n

One week left to nominate a North Lakes Star!<\/h3>\n

Our next Shining Star Award will be focused on the North Lakes Health Precinct alongside the executive visit on Tuesday 25 July.<\/p>\n

Nominations close Wednesday 19 July. Please nominate a colleague or team for the July Shining Star Award by sending a 50-100 word submission to COH-Communications@health.qld.gov.au<\/a><\/p>\n

Staff movements<\/h3>\n

Just to catch up on some staff movements, please be aware that Michelle Kane is acting in the Director of Nursing Community and Oral Health role from 3 July to 20 August, while Tanya Beaumont acts as the Metro North Health Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer.<\/p>\n

Jodi Dwyer will be acting as the Nursing Director Safety and Quality for this period.<\/p>\n
