It\u2019s been quite a time in history to start my medical career, that\u2019s for sure,\u201d Dr Cooper said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think my stay in hospital with COVID-19 showed me how I want to be as a clinician when I am caring for someone \u2013 many clinicians would talk about me but not to me, which was uncomfortable, as I knew the medical terminology they were using and what it meant.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn theory, I think all healthcare professionals know we need to directly talk to our patients and involve them in their care, but having been on the patient side of things recently reminded me of the importance of this and how I\u2019ll approach my role.<\/p>\n<p>While Caboolture Hospital hasn\u2019t seen too many COVID-19 patients, Jack says his personal experience has made him more aware of COVID-19\u2019s effect on people, both physically and mentally.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a doctor, it has changed the way I approach patients and I\u2019ll always take my time now to make sure I\u2019ve answered all their questions and they\u2019re comfortable before I leave,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd personally, I\u2019ll never take anything for granted.
