Within the CKW Research Development Unit (RDU), we aim to change that.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The RDU was established in 2016 with three part-time researchers. In the last year alone:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a total of <strong>28<\/strong> new research studies were approved<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>50<\/strong> CKW staff published in peer-reviewed journals, with\u00a0a majority of our publications in Q1 ranked journals<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>successful grant funding continued to triple year-on-year, from $148,000 in 2017\/2018 to <strong>$1.6 million<\/strong> in 2021\/2022.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>While they say it takes on average 17 years to translate research from the lab into routine clinical practice, at Caboolture we have shown that we can shorten this timeframe because our projects are meaningful to our community and closely aligned with clinical practice.<\/p>\n<p>Some recent research highlights include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Our <strong>allied health<\/strong> team led a three-year funded multisite trial that showed that integrated care coordination for children with non-complex medical conditions (e.g. anxiety, ADHD) improved child and family quality of life outcomes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-17218 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/metronorth.health.qld.gov.au\/extranet\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2023\/10\/cabh-thuy-frakking-1.png\" alt=\"Speakers at Caboolture Hospital, 2023 Research Symposium \" width=\"300\" height=\"182\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/metronorth.health.qld.gov.au\/extranet\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2023\/10\/cabh-thuy-frakking-1-200x121.png 200w, https:\/\/metronorth.health.qld.gov.au\/extranet\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2023\/10\/cabh-thuy-frakking-1-247x150.png 247w, https:\/\/metronorth.health.qld.gov.au\/extranet\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2023\/10\/cabh-thuy-frakking-1.png 300w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 300px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 300\/182;\" \/>Our <strong>midwifery<\/strong> team evaluated our community-led midwifery model for young Caboolture mums. We found that mums (as young as 14 years old) were significantly more like to deliver their babies full-term, instead of premature delivery, when engaged with our service model.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>During the COVID-19 pandemic, Caboolture Hospital\u2019s <strong>Intensive Care Unit<\/strong> (ICU) was part of an international trial which evaluated the effectiveness of specific drugs on the survival rates of critically ill COVID-19 patients receiving organ support in ICUs.
