On Saturday 14 October, Australians everywhere will be called upon to participate in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice referendum.<\/h4>\n

I encourage all Metro North Health staff to inform themselves<\/a>\u00a0about what this referendum is about and to make sure that they are aware of their obligations as\u00a0public sector employees<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Just like federal elections, voting in the referendum is compulsory. Unlike previous elections though, the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC)\u00a0will not<\/u><\/strong>\u00a0be providing polling facilities for patients or staff at our hospitals.\u00a0\u00a0This means that Metro North Health staff who may be working on Saturday 14 October will need to plan ahead for how they will submit their referendum vote.<\/p>\n

Staff \u2013 alternative voting options<\/h3>\n

Postal voting may be a good option for those unable to get to a polling booth on Saturday 14 October, between 8am and 6pm. Find out more about postal voting on the\u00a0AEC website<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Early voting is another option staff may like to consider. More information about the locations where staff can vote before Saturday 14 October, is available on the\u00a0AEC website<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Information and advice for hospital patients unable to attend a polling booth on Saturday 14 October, is available on the AEC website.<\/p>\n

If a patient or visitor asks, please refer them to this website:\u00a0www.aec.gov.au\/faqs\/hospital.htm<\/a>. You can also suggest they call the\u00a0AEC for advice on 13 23 26.<\/p>\n

In the lead-up to the referendum, please ensure you\u2019re familiar with the Public Sector Commissioner\u2019s\u00a0guidance for public sector employees<\/a>, and remember our Metro North values of Respect and Integrity.<\/p>\n
