It also includes appropriate prescribing and use of antimicrobials to prevent and contain antimicrobial resistance.<\/p>\n<p>The Medication Safety Standard aims to ensure that clinicians safely prescribe, dispense and administer appropriate medicines and that consumers are informed about medicines, and understand their own medicine needs and risks.<\/p>\n<p>Some practical steps that staff can take to prepare for these Standards\u00a0are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>having excellent hand hygiene (the five moments)<\/li>\n<li>being bare below the elbow<\/li>\n<li>wearing PPE correctly and as per transmission-based and standard precautions<\/li>\n<li>cleaning the WOW between patients<\/li>\n<li>using antibiotics wisely and as per protocol<\/li>\n<li>asking patients about their medication history<\/li>\n<li>correctly using\u00a0the ieMR and scanner for medicine administration<\/li>\n<li>ensuring allergies are documented and reviewed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For more information on the National and Safety Quality Standards, including tips and vidcasts, see the <a href=\"https:\/\/comms.health.qld.gov.au\/ch\/92002\/1v957x\/7209\/VjlLeFBpzyyFwDyfihV86UTw6j8Gk86N.JgVD1.Y.html\">QHEPS page<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>PDP compliance<\/h3>\n<p>Metro North Health is committed to putting people first with a focus on our people\u2019s career development and supporting them to understand what\u2019s expected of them in their roles.
