Domestic and Family Violence Working Group<\/p><\/div><\/p>\n

It is good to be back after another holiday overseas and I can’t speak highly enough of taking some time to get away and relax – although in saying that I need a holiday to recover from my holiday!<\/h4>\n

But, it was certainly well worth it. Thank you to Mary Wheeldon for doing a wonderful job covering my position while I was away for two weeks.<\/p>\n

I appreciate her leadership and management of issues that arose during this period and am grateful to each of you for supporting Mary in the role.<\/p>\n

As\u00a0usual there was a lot happening across our directorate while I wasn’t here<\/p>\n

Great behind the scenes work<\/h3>\n

There has been a lot going on behind the scenes with the Domestic and Family Violence Working Group, and today I want to share some of the great wins they have achieved in the past few weeks and months.<\/p>\n

DFV Awareness Expo<\/p><\/div>\n

Heart Foundation Walk to remember<\/p><\/div><\/p>\n

Across our facilities you will now see many new red benches that have been created as a way to raise awareness and bring to the forefront the important conversation about Domestic and Family Violence (DFV).<\/p>\n

Last week, we hosted the\u00a0Police Services,\u00a0Services Australia,\u00a0Caxton Legal and\u00a0Uniting Care Services as part of our successful Domestic and Family Violence Awareness Expo targeting the community and staff.<\/p>\n

In addition,\u00a0yesterday the working group also held a wellness walk along the Moreton Bay foreshore to raise funds for a great cause \u2013 DV Safe Phones.<\/p>\n

Kallangur Satellite Hospital<\/h3>\n

\"KSHThe Kallangur Satellite Hospital (KSH) begins accepting patients next Monday, what an achievement for all staff involved.<\/p>\n

I particularly wanted\u00a0 to thank all the members of the new Older Persons Assessment and Rehabilitation Service, as well as the Oral Health team who have moved from the Pine Rivers Community Centre to the new purpose-built facilities at the KSH.<\/p>\n

There are many moving parts to consider when opening, or moving a service and\u00a0congratulations\u00a0to the Oral Health team who made sure that our patients were well informed and reassured ahead of the move.<\/p>\n

The great debate<\/h3>\n

Recently, a\u00a0 number of events were held to acknowledge our amazing Allied Health staff across COH, and at the same time a serious question was asked as part of The Great Debate!<\/p>\n

Which Allied Health profession is the greatest of all time?<\/h3>\n
\"It

It wasn’t as clear cut – the winner of the Great Debate was Occupational Therapy, with the People’s Choice Winner Speech Pathology.<\/p><\/div>\n

Five amazing disciplines squared off – Dietetics, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Pathology and Social Work, with a sneaky message from COH Pharmacy embedded in our OT video.<\/p>\n

Given all COH Allied Health staff do an amazing job\u00a0– I wouldn’t be able to separate them,\u00a0but there had to be a winner of The Great Debate!<\/p>\n

Congratulations to Occupational Therapy who were awarded the Panel’s Choice Award this week, with Social Work a very close second.<\/p>\n

In addition, a People’s Choice Award was also given to Speech Pathology!<\/p>\n

Calling out some VIA Champions<\/h3>\n

\"TheThe Oral Health Call Centre recently received a Values in Action (VIA) award by the executive.<\/p>\n

The Oral Health Call Centre were presented with a VIA award for:<\/p>\n

“Demonstrating a high level of respect, high performance and compassion towards patients.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Congratulations to all members of the team for putting others first and being the first important point of call for many of our patients<\/p>\n

And, the Oral Health accolades just keep coming in<\/h3>\n

Please join me in congratulating Margaret Herzig on her recent CAHRLI (Collaborative for Allied Health Research, Learning and Innovation) Award.<\/p>\n

Margaret has been recognised for demonstrating excellence in facilitating a research partnership – the Queensland Child Oral Health Study.<\/p>\n

\"GannetThis study is\u00a0a collaboration between Metro North Health, other participating health services, The University of Queensland, and the Department of Health and Department of Education.<\/p>\n

Great work Margaret!<\/p>\n

A final shout out<\/h3>\n

Gannet House resident Merv and the team at the Sandgate Men’s Shed have been busy in Santa’s workshop creating, repairing, and building items in time for Christmas.<\/p>\n

Merv’s personal favourite activity is pyrography, which is essentially creating art through burning wood at different heats and depths.<\/p>\n
