Sherry Holzaphel, ED, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health<\/p><\/div>\n

This month we welcomed 24 participants in the inaugural Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Leadership Program. The program has been developed for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff to build strong connections and explore opportunities.<\/h4>\n

Another pathway for our staff is to consider becoming a coach.<\/p>\n

Healthcare is an exciting industry to be in, it allows us to provide direct care to our mob and communities. \u00a0It\u2019s an industry that requires great strength, compassion, care, respect, and trust.<\/p>\n

As the lead for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health, I encourage our deadly Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workforce to put their hand up to be a coach. \u00a0When we inspire others and provide that coaching support, we are growing our own workforce and helping them advocate for change and improvements.<\/p>\n

Our health equity journey is all about providing equitable outcomes and a large part of what we heard from community is having representation of our mob at all levels. Our community wants to see us at every touch point of their health journey, to feel culturally safe, respected and that their voices continue to be heard.<\/p>\n

The same applies to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workforce. Here at Metro North Health, we want you to be valued for your strengths, fulfilled, and rewarded each day you show up to care for our community.<\/p>\n

I strongly encourage all staff to consider developing coaching skills and provide support to others through becoming a Metro North Coach.<\/p>\n
