This then kicked off his 20-year long career as a saturation diver.<\/h4>\n<p>In 2020, Bob took up a role as senior hyperbaric chamber supervisor at the RBWH where he has the important job of supervising the &#8216;diving&#8217; aspect of patients going through a treatment.<\/p>\n<p>Hyperbaric oxygen treatment is the inhalation of 100 per cent oxygen inside a treatment chamber at a pressure greater than sea level.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe doctors are the ones administering the drug which is the oxygen, but I am controlling the dive itself which is all done via a computerised panel,&#8221; Bob said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe monitor the dive constantly by calculating what the decompression obligation is, so that it&#8217;s not too much pressure for the patients because they don&#8217;t have a nitrogen load.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"fusion-sep-clear\"><\/div><div class=\"fusion-separator fusion-full-width-sep\" style=\"margin-left: auto;margin-right: auto;margin-bottom:50px;width:100%;\"><\/div><div class=\"fusion-sep-clear\"><\/div><div class=\"fusion-clearfix\"><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After leaving the military in 1986 where Bob was a Navy clearance diver, Bob began a career working offshore where he began his saturation diving course in 1990 in Scotland. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":53,"featured_media":20924,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"_searchwp_excluded":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[176],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-20921","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news-at-the-royal"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.2 -
