Glynis Schultz, Executive Director<\/p><\/div>\n

I joined the COH performance management meeting within hours of returning to COH and was privileged to hear a wonderful story of a patient from Interim Care.<\/h4>\n

On arrival, this gentleman demonstrated behaviours of concern because of cognitive changes.
\nThe staff responded by meeting his individual needs so that he felt safe and secure, and his behaviours were no longer a concern.<\/p>\n

This gentleman was discharged to long-term accommodation but returned to Interim Care because staff in the other facility couldn’t manage his behaviours. On his return, this gentleman greeted the Interim Care staff with open arms.<\/p>\n

This is one of many stories about the wonderful patient care provided by the multidisciplinary team in Interim Care but what struck me was the very powerful message that how we care and how we respond makes such a difference\u00a0in people\u2019s lives.<\/p>\n

Thank you COH teams for serving the people in our care with such humanity.<\/p>\n

As expected, the terrific staff at COH have kept things progressing while I have been away and I thank you all sincerely. Thank you to Tanya for her leadership while acting in the Executive Director role.<\/p>\n

\"TheA well-deserved congrats!<\/h3>\n

I want to give a well-deserved congratulations to the Rapid Access to Community Care service which is a finalist in the Queensland Health Awards for Excellence 2024<\/a> in the strengthening our patient’s care category.<\/p>\n

This is an acknowledgement of innovation and patient centred care at its finest.<\/p>\n

Thank you to the many staff who have achieved this success either behind the scenes or who work or have worked in the team.<\/p>\n

The recognition is deserved and is also a broader reflection of the amazing work and care that is delivered across the whole directorate. Well done!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Volunteer celebrations<\/h3>\n

I always enjoy highlighting our COH volunteer celebrations each year, acknowledging the wonderful, compassionate and selfless efforts of our volunteers each and every year.<\/p>\n

Their work is inspiring and welcomed by the executive, staff, patients, residents and the families they engage and support each day.<\/p>\n

THIS MONDAY<\/em><\/strong> – North Lakes Shining Stars award!<\/h3>\n

Our next Shining Star Award will be focused on North Lakes Health Precinct alongside our visit on Monday 3 June.<\/strong><\/p>\n

We encourage all North Lakes staff to come along and celebrate the success of your colleagues with some cake on Monday June 3, in the North Lakes Staff Lunch Room from 10.00 am.<\/p>\n

It isn’t too late though! North Lakes Health Precinct Shining Star Award nominations close today – by submitting a 50-100 word nomination to COH-Communications@health.qld.gov.au<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Compliment – Cooinda House, Fiona Webster<\/h3>\n

“My mother and father were both residents at Cooinda House.\u00a0It became obvious when I was helping complete the paperwork on behalf of Dad (when he moved to Cooinda) that Fiona Webster was going to make it so much easier for us with her knowledge of the processes and her extremely helpful demeanour.<\/em><\/p>\n

“I live in Perth and over three and a quarter years I had lots of interaction with Cooinda House (mainly by phone) and on the majority of these occasions I started by speaking with Fiona who always had time to listen and either solve my request or provide the advice on who or what was the next step.<\/em><\/p>\n

“These requests were numerous and varied from getting new clothes labelled, printing photos I\u2019d sent, helping Mum with her phone, dealing with lost property and everything in between.<\/em><\/p>\n

“This was in addition to all of the financial aspects of Mum and Dad being residents which Fiona managed without any fuss and made it extremely easy for me to understand and supply required information.<\/em><\/p>\n

“Fiona is an outstanding person and Cooinda House is all the better for having her as part of its wonderful team.”<\/em><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

\"\"<\/a>Just over three weeks until ieMR go-live<\/h3>\n

A number of key\u00a0community services will be going live as part of a staggered ieMR implementation<\/a>\u00a0commencing from Wednesday<\/strong> 26 June 2024<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

With just over three weeks until then, completing all outstanding mandatory training is a priority. If you have not yet been scheduled in for your instructor-led training, please speak to your line manager.<\/p>\n

Waiting for What Survey<\/h3>\n

Please be aware that Metro North will conduct the Waiting for What Survey<\/em><\/strong> on the weekend of 6-9 June 2024. Waiting for What<\/em><\/strong> is a survey tool that identifies what an inpatient is waiting for that is preventing timely discharge.<\/p>\n

The survey is intended to give a better understanding of what challenges are causing delays in discharge from acute hospitals or transfer of care to support improved patient flow.<\/p>\n

The survey will be conducted at 10.30 am and 4.30 pm on Thursday 6, Friday 7, and Sunday 9 June and at 8.00 pm on 6 June. Inpatient beds and emergency department short stay units will be included in the survey, with some exclusions.<\/p>\n

\"\"The information collected by the survey will inform updates to the Metro North Acute Bed Capacity Management Plan and the Metro North Subacute Care Plan.<\/p>\n

A final shout out<\/h3>\n

Professor Clair has a goal for the COH diabetes service, and that is to understand and discover new forms of technology and how it can better serve patients with diabetes from home.<\/p>\n

The diabetes service helps patients make healthier decisions about managing Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, and diabetes-related foot diseases.<\/p>\n

Diabetes is a chronic disease that occurs when the pancreas does not produce enough insulin or when the body cannot effectively use the insulin it produces.<\/p>\n
