Herston Health Precinct Symposium grows ever larger<\/h1>\n

After much planning and preparation, the three days of this much-anticipated event went by in a flurry of activity from 2-4 September.<\/h4>\n

The Symposium Steering Committee, headed by Associate Professor Joel Dulhunty and Susan Taylor, led all that planning and successfully brought the whole event together for 2024.<\/p>\n

That success was reflected in a high turnout across the three days \u2013 and a buzzing Education Centre.<\/p>\n

There were more than 800 attendees, as well as:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • 187 Submitted abstracts<\/li>\n
  • 70 Printed posters on display<\/li>\n
  • 61 e-Posters on display<\/li>\n
  • 45 Reviewers of abstracts<\/li>\n
  • 39 Oral presentations<\/li>\n
  • 8 Exhibition tables<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Other highlights included the panel discussion, \u2018Innovative research pathways for clinicians and consumers\u2019, The Great Debate on whether quantitative research is better than qualitative and the Keynote Presentation by Professor Elizabeth Powell, \u2018Aspiring clinician-researchers \u2013 the Herston Health Precinct needs you!\u2019<\/p>\n

    Many attendees commented on the added ambiance provided by the Stairwell Project Musicians throughout the event.<\/p>\n

    The program concluded with an awards ceremony with the following winners across the eight categories:<\/p>\n

    • Early Career (Professor Lawrie Powell AC) Research Award \u2014 Dr Aur\u00e9lie Benfield<\/strong><\/li>\n
    • Higher Degree Research Award \u2014 Hannah Olufson<\/strong><\/li>\n
    • Best Translational Research Into Practice (Professor Jeffrey Lipman AM) Award \u2014 Dr Jen Setchell \/ Morgan Brodhurst-Hill \/ Caroline Zanussi<\/strong><\/li>\n
    • Best Clinical (Dr Stephen Morrison) Research Award \u2014 Dr Julie Wixey<\/strong><\/li>\n
    • Best Discovery and Innovation (Professor William Egerton) Research Award \u2014 Jaikrishna Balakittnen<\/strong><\/li>\n
    • Allied Health (Dr Jennifer Paratz) Research Award \u2014 Elise Byrne<\/strong><\/li>\n
    • Nursing and Midwifery (Cecilia Brazil) Research Award \u2014 Dr Deanne August<\/strong><\/li>\n
