VR has\u00a0a range of proven benefits for hospital patients such as\u00a0improving\u00a0mental health, increasing\u00a0pain tolerance,\u00a0and\u00a0aiding\u00a0recovery in\u00a0patients\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Chimera Legacy Foundation\u00a0founder Damien Thompson said he knows\u00a0firsthand how debilitating\u202fanxiety and nerves\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">could be before a major procedure.\u202f<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">&#8221;Personally, I&#8217;ve been through treatments for lymphoblastic leukaemia and\u00a0graft\u00a0versus\u00a0host\u00a0disease (GVHD) as well as a bone marrow transplant, a double lung transplant,\u00a0and two hip replacements in my early twenties,&#8221; Mr Thompson said.\u202f<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">&#8221;We know care\u202fand recovery outcomes can be improved\u00a0through the use of\u00a0VR technology which is why Chimera Legacy Foundation is working with healthcare providers and fellow not-for-profit organisations to roll out our VR-AID program.\u2019\u2019<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Recently, Brisbane City Council\u00a0and Gipps Outdoor\u00a0threw their support behind the Chimera Legacy Foundation by providing them with free use of a high-traffic billboard in Fortitude Valley.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Current RBWH\u00a0oncology patient\u00a0Sally-Anne Collett said a\u00a0VR kits\u00a0donated to the RBWH\u2019s Sony You Can\u00a0Centre\u00a0had opened her eyes to the benefits of VR.\u202f<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u2018\u2018Treatment is full on and some days, you really want to escape from reality,\u2019\u2019 Ms Collett said.\u202f<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u2018\u2018VR gives me that opportunity,\u00a0whether it\u2019s catching up with friends and family or exploring the streets of Paris from the hospital.\u202f<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u2018\u2019I hope more patients have the opportunity to experience the benefits and joy that VR can bring during what\u2019s a really tough time.\u2019\u2019<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">For more information on the Chimera Legacy Foundation&#8217;s VR-AID program, visit\u202f<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/chimeralegacyfoundation.org.au\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">chimeralegacyfoundation.org.au<\/span><\/a><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"fusion-clearfix\"><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When former RBWH patient Damien Thompson was receiving treatment for leukaemia a number of years ago, he never imagined that one day he would be leading charity which aims to help cancer patients like himself have an easier time in hospital. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":51,"featured_media":3660,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"_searchwp_excluded":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[176],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-3695","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news-at-the-royal"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.2 -
