Dear Colleagues,<\/p>\n

As you may have heard, two cases of COVID-19 were recorded overnight\u00a0in Queensland.<\/p>\n

One of those cases is\u00a0a returned traveller\u00a0in hotel quarantine. The other person\u00a0is\u00a0a trainer from\u00a0the\u00a0Queensland Corrective Services Academy.\u00a0As a result, every\u00a0correctional facility\u00a0from Rockhampton\u00a0south\u00a0will\u00a0remain on Stage 4 restrictions.\u00a0Close contacts have\u00a0already\u00a0been identified and tested as a matter of priority.<\/p>\n

In positive news from the Brisbane Youth Detention Centre, all young people in the centre have returned negative results.<\/p>\n

Metro North remains at a\u00a0Tier 2 response<\/a>, which reflects moderate community transmission.<\/p>\n

Updated\u00a0list\u00a0of venues<\/strong><\/p>\n

Thanks to the hardworking team of contact tracers, Queensland Health has expanded its list of venues where cases of the Brisbane Youth Detention Centre visited. This team is working exceptionally hard to ensure that all contacts are notified,\u00a0 testing is conducted and appropriate processes are put in place to manage the individuals affected.\u00a0 Well done to all who are working in this highly dynamic space.<\/p>\n

Anyone who has been to these locations at the times specified should monitor their health and if they develop any COVID-19 symptoms, even mild, get tested.<\/p>\n

Visitor restrictions<\/strong><\/p>\n

Under the\u00a0Hospital Visitors Direction (No.6)<\/a>, people can only visit our facilities if they are the parent, guardian or\u00a0carer of a patient under 18, the support person or partner of a patient admitted for maternity care or if they are providing end-of-life support.<\/p>\n

As\u00a0our\u00a0facilities are declared\u00a0\u2018restricted\u2019, where a patient can receive\u00a0visits, only one person can visit\u00a0the patient\u00a0for the duration of their care.\u00a0For the nominated visitor, there are no limits to the number or duration of\u00a0their\u00a0visits within visiting hours.<\/p>\n

There is no\u00a0doubt this is\u00a0a challenging\u00a0time for our patients and their loved ones. By restricting the numbers of people in our facilities,\u00a0and asking those who enter to wear masks,\u00a0we know we are doing everything we can to protect our staff, patients and the community.\u00a0\u00a0We ask everyone to be patient and understanding during this time.<\/p>\n

Staff, visitor and patient registration<\/strong><\/p>\n

Feedback from facilities suggests that our visitor registration and staff sign in process is working well. Thank you to those\u00a0staff across Metro North\u00a0who are\u00a0lending a hand to support the concierge service\u00a0and explaining new requirements to visitors and patients as they arrive to our facilities.<\/p>\n

In many places,\u00a0staff are registering their attendance using\u00a0ID and swipe cards.\u00a0\u00a0Where staff do not have a swipe pass, they can\u00a0now register using a QR code that works in the same way as the patients and visitor registration.\u00a0All\u00a0EOCs\u00a0across Metro North\u00a0have received resources to support this process.<\/p>\n

Vidcasts<\/strong><\/p>\n

We are hearing great feedback about our\u00a0vidcasts<\/a>, with\u00a0many of you\u00a0finding them a useful tool to keep up to date. We acknowledge that\u00a0not everyone has\u00a0a\u00a0spare\u00a0hour in\u00a0their\u00a0day\u00a0to\u00a0catch the latest updates\u00a0so please\u00a0I\u00a0strongly\u00a0encourage you to keep reading\u00a0the\u00a0daily updates, where the key themes from the vidcasts\u00a0are covered. You can always speak to your line manager if you wish to seek clarification.<\/p>\n

With all of the wonderful work happening around the HHS and the commitment, hard work\u00a0and enthusiasm of our staff,\u00a0I am optimistic and confident we\u00a0are\u00a0more than\u00a0ready to respond\u00a0if we see a spike in cases here in Metro North.\u00a0Please stay alert and ready for change.\u00a0 As we found out last weekend, it can change overnight. We need to be responsive to the directives of the Chief Health Officer.\u00a0Thank you so very much\u00a0for doing just that!<\/p>\n

The introduction of masks for all of us has posed some challenges but it is so important that we follow the directions provided to us.\u00a0\u00a0While it does take some getting used to and\u00a0is certainly not conducive to eating (which is great for me as my chocolate consumption has greatly reduced),\u00a0I am getting used to the fact that I have to look into people\u2019s eyes to see if they are smiling or not.\u00a0You are all looking awesome and committed to the cause!<\/p>\n

In the spirit of taking care of yourself, I\u2019ll leave you with this:\u00a0\u201cBe strong enough to stand alone, smart enough to know when you need help and brave enough to ask for it.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
