Dear colleagues,<\/p>\n

Exciting news today as we are now in our eighth day without any community transmission.\u00a0Queensland recorded zero cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours,\u00a0with\u00a0our active cases\u00a0dropping\u00a0down to 25 as\u00a0people\u00a0recover.<\/p>\n

Yesterday saw 5,751 Queenslanders come forward for testing. It is great to see large numbers continuing to come forward. This has been an integral part of\u00a0keeping\u00a0down our community transmission. We continue to urge\u00a0anyone with symptoms,\u00a0no matter how mild,\u00a0to come forward and get tested.<\/p>\n

There are so many teams across the\u00a0organisation\u00a0doing\u00a0tremendous\u00a0work for our COVID-19 response. Today I would like to\u00a0give a\u00a0shout out\u00a0to\u00a0all our staff working in fever clinics, concierge\u00a0and EOCs across the organisation. Thank you\u00a0for\u00a0your\u00a0hard work and long hours.\u00a0Every\u00a0one of you are a crucial part of our response\u00a0to COVID-19.<\/p>\n

Queensland\u00a0border update<\/strong><\/p>\n

The announcement was made this morning that from\u00a0Friday 25 September at 1am<\/strong>,\u00a0Queensland\u2019s\u00a0boarders\u00a0will be opened\u00a0to travellers from the ACT.\u00a0This\u00a0will be contingent on the ACT having no new cases\u00a0between now and\u00a0that date.\u00a0 Travellers will be required to comply with\u00a0Public Health Direction \u2013 Border Restrictions Direction (No.13).<\/a><\/p>\n

Aerosol Generating Behaviours\u00a0(AGB)\u00a0work group\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Metro North EOC is calling for expressions of interest\u00a0from\u00a0clinicians\u00a0to\u00a0form a workgroup\u00a0to\u00a0develop\u00a0COVID-19\u00a0plans\u00a0and guidelines\u00a0for\u00a0management of\u00a0patients who have\u00a0Aerosol Generating Behaviours\u00a0(AGBs). Within the context of COVID-19,\u00a0AGBs\u00a0such as\u00a0shouting\u00a0or coughing\u00a0are observed in patients who have\u00a0severe respiratory distress,\u00a0dementia,\u00a0cognitive\u00a0impairments\u00a0and mental health conditions.\u00a0The workgroup\u00a0will require\u00a0multidisciplinary\u00a0representation from\u00a0clinicians such as\u00a0infectious disease\u00a0specialists,\u00a0respiratory physicians,\u00a0psychologists, mental health clinicians\u00a0and geriatricians.<\/p>\n

Social distancing<\/strong><\/p>\n

Although the number of cases in our community remain low, now is not the time to drop the ball\u00a0with\u00a0our COVID-19\u00a0safe practices.\u00a0Please\u00a0remember\u00a0that the 1.5m social distancing rule is critical unless providing patient care where this is not possible.\u00a0Sometimes,\u00a0letting someone know they are not adhering to the 1.5m rule can be tricky. Liz\u00a0Rushbrook\u2019s\u00a0pool\u00a0noodle\u00a0trick is very handy, though\u00a0we don\u2019t all have pool noodles lying around.\u00a0\u00a0You might need to ask someone \u201cWould you mind stepping\u00a0back,\u00a0so we are 1.5m apart\u201d. You could say\u00a0\u201cLet\u2019s make sure we physically distance\u201d. Or, as RBWH Executive Director of Medical Services, Mark Mattiussi suggested,\u00a0you could\u00a0sing the line from\u00a0the Police\u2019s famous song \u201cDon\u2019t Stand So Close to Me<\/a>.\u201d\u00a0<\/em>\u00a0I\u2019ve provided the link below if you\u2019d like to refresh your memory of the song.<\/p>\n
