Dear\u00a0colleagues,<\/p>\n

Yesterday\u00a0Melbourne recorded four new locally acquired cases of COVID-19.\u00a0Today\u00a0a further five\u00a0new infections\u00a0have been identified,\u00a0bringing this to a total of nine locally acquired cases.\u00a0Genomic sequencing has confirmed that five of these cases are linked to the Wollert man who returned to Victoria this month after acquiring the virus in South Australian hotel quarantine.<\/p>\n

As a result, the Queensland Government has announced some new restrictions.\u00a0From 1am Wednesday 26 May, anyone entering Queensland from any of the Victorian exposure sites at the time specified will be required\u00a0to quarantine for 14 days in government-arranged accommodation.<\/p>\n

If you have been to any of these sites and are already in Queensland, you must complete the Queensland Health online\u00a0contact tracing self-assessment form<\/a>.\u00a0You must also get tested immediately and quarantine in your home or accommodation. Please call 134 COVID (13 42 68) if you are unable to complete the online self-assessment.<\/p>\n

If you have\u00a0been in the northern suburbs of Melbourne on or after 18 May 2021 but were not at any of the exposure venues in Victoria, please monitor your symptoms and\u00a0get tested<\/a>\u00a0if you experience any\u00a0COVID-19 symptoms<\/a>, no matter how mild.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0list of Victorian exposure venues\u00a0is available on the\u00a0Queensland Health COVID-19 website<\/a>\u00a0and will continue to be updated over the coming days. Please continue to monitor this website.<\/p>\n

This new outbreak shows us that COVID-19 is still with us.\u00a0As we head into winter, this is a concerning time for us as the last 12 months have shown us that outbreaks are worse during our colder months.<\/p>\n

Vaccination update<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Premier announced yesterday that\u00a014 community vaccination hubs will be operating across Queensland by the end of July for people aged 40-49. People aged between 40-49, and are not part of the 1a or 1b categories,\u00a0should\u00a0register\u00a0their interest\u00a0for the COVID-19 vaccine<\/a>\u00a0so\u00a0they can be contacted when a community hub opens in their local area.<\/p>\n

If you are yet to receive your COVID-19 vaccine, I\u2019d like\u00a0encourage\u00a0you and your eligible family members\u00a0to\u00a0book an appointment<\/a>\u00a0as soon as possible.<\/p>\n

Just by way of some trivia, today\u00a025 May\u00a0I celebrate my 40th<\/sup>\u00a0year in health.\u00a0 On this day in 1981 I commenced my General Nursing Training.\u00a0 Wow…who would have thought that\u00a0in this week,\u00a040 years later\u00a0I would be Incident Controller\u00a0during\u00a0the biggest pandemic response\u00a0in 100 years!!\u00a0Life is full of surprises, turns and twists but I can honestly say Metro North Health\u2019s\u00a0response\u00a0to COVID-19\u00a0has been outstanding and I feel a little chuffed to be working in this space with so many talented and dedicated health professionals.\u00a0Congratulations to everyone for what you have done and continue to do to keep Queenslanders safe.<\/p>\n
