New Indigenous Health Liaison team<\/p><\/div>\n

Meet Allira and Lillian \u2013 the newest members of the STARS Indigenous Health Service team.<\/h4>\n

Acting Cultural Capability Officer <\/strong><\/p>\n

My name is Allira. I am a proud Bundjalung and Mununjali Aboriginal woman, who has lived life and had connections to Gubbi Gubbi land in Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast.<\/p>\n

I only started my journey within Queensland Health last year within the administration stream. You may have seen me around supporting the Social Work, Speech Pathology and Dietetics team as a support officer, or previously on the reception desk. I was able to step into the IHLO position under Indigenous Health.<\/p>\n

Prior to this I worked with defence force recruiting as a medical recruiter for the navy and air force and fronted their Indigenous recruitment programs based in Brisbane and Cairns.<\/p>\n

I am excited to be given the opportunity to be acting in the Cultural Capability Officer role and gain more experience in supporting Indigenous Health within Queensland Health.<\/p>\n

Acting Indigenous Liaison Officer <\/strong><\/p>\n

My name is Lillian. I’m a proud Barungam women who was born and raised on Turrbal and Jagera lands.<\/p>\n

My background is in allied health. I’m an early career pharmacist here at STARS but am currently on a secondment to the Indigenous Hospital Liaison Officer role.<\/p>\n

Since starting at STARS, I have been lucky enough to be involved in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander committee, the making of our Reconciliation Action Plan, as well Metro Norths Health Equity Plan. Through this, I have gotten the chance meet and network with our Indigenous team here at the hospital and now I\u2019m excited to become a part of that team.<\/p>\n

I can\u2019t wait to see what the next few weeks have in store for me, to be even more involved in our Indigenous patients experience around the hospital and find new ways to improve their journey through our facility.<\/p>\n

Yarn to Quit: Smoking Cessation Support
\nFree quit smoking support program<\/em><\/strong>The Yarn to Quit program has been developed to provide all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Queenslanders access to free quit smoking support. The program is delivered by the Quitline service and includes support calls provided by a quit smoking specialist and up to a 12-week supply of nicotine replacement products (such as patches, gum and lozenges) that are posted to the client.Quitline has a team of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander quit support specialists. You client can request to speak to one of the team members or choose to speak to any of the other quit support specialists.<\/p>\n

Referring your patient is easy. Complete the online referral form<\/a> and select the \u2018email form\u2019 option at bottom of page. The form will be sent directly to Quitline.<\/p>\n
