“Our 27 Peer Responders come from all over the hospital. We have doctors, nurses, administrative, and support staff who now all proudly wear the Peer Responder badge,” Dr Yan said.<\/p>\n

“Each of them volunteered and applied for the role. There was a selection and interview process, and they all went through training in phycological first aid before they were appointed,” Dr Yan said.<\/p>\n

“Peer Responders don’t take the place of professional counsellors. They can help, though, in providing confidential support during tough times.<\/p>\n

“They’re well-placed to be a first step in referring staff to ongoing support services they may need.”<\/p>\n

Dr Yan said Redcliffe was the second hospital in Metro North to appoint Peer Responders.<\/p>\n
