Nutrition and Dietetics getting involved with their Foodbank efforts last year<\/p><\/div>\n

Christmas is just a few weeks away and while many of us plan our festive spread for family and friends, Director of Allied Health Mark Cruickshank is calling on us to keep our fellow Queenslanders in mind.<\/p>\n

Research shows 47 per cent of Queenslanders are experiencing food insecurity and have accessed food relief at least once this year, with Christmas Day set to be a struggle for some.<\/p>\n

With fall-out from the pandemic to natural disasters, demand for food relief is increasing, with more than a third of food insecure Queenslanders having never gone hungry before 2020.<\/p>\n

The good news is that in the spirit of giving this festive season, you can make a huge difference just by forgoing one day of purchased lunch or a meal out \u2013 with every $1 donated to Foodbank Queensland providing a meal for two people in need.<\/p>\n

Angela said she was moved by RBWH staff\u2019s generosity last year during the Foodbank Queensland Christmas drive, where the team kindly gave more than 850kg of food items.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe know our staff here are very generous, so we are asking them to bring a packed lunch from home one day in December when they would usually purchase lunch, and donate the money to this worthy cause,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cCOVID-19 has changed the way we\u2019ll run the donation drive this year as physical food donations are not an option, but the \u2018miss a meal for charity\u2019 concept will mean donations go a long way, as Foodbank Queensland can directly purchase what they need from suppliers.\u201d<\/p>\n
