As part of the day, RBWH staff\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">were invited to take part in the raising of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags and placing the\u00a0ANTaR\u00a0Sea of Hands in the front RBWH garden. The hands are an iconic symbol of reconciliation and a way for communities across Australia to engage with\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Reconciliation Week.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">RBWH Cultural Capability Officer Geoffrey Binge said\u00a0that\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">National Reconciliation Week is one of the many occasions that encourages us to\u00a0forge\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">positive and respectful\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">relationships, and to celebrate and enhance our relations between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and all Australians.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cThese invaluable relationships\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">enable us to work together to close the gaps in\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">people<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">s<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u2019<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0health and life expectancy and<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">to achieve a shared sense of fairness and justice,\u201d he said.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cOn this journey of reconciliation, we all have a role to play; to take action, to build and maintain better relations and at the same time be willing to reconcile differences.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1532\" style=\"width: 810px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1532\" class=\"wp-image-1532 size-full lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/metronorth.health.qld.gov.au\/staff-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/25\/2021\/06\/sea-of-hands-b2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"318\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 800px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 800\/318;\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1532\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">RBWH commemorated National Reconciliation Week with the ANTaR Sea of Hands<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">RBWH staff\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">were also encouraged to wear the\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">colours<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0donate to Reconciliation Queensland, and visit the Better Together Health Van throughout the week.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"fusion-clearfix\"><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From 27 May to 3 June, Team Royal continued our commitment to closing the healthcare gap for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with a range of activities for National Reconciliation Week.
