RBWH gardening team<\/p><\/div>\n

The RBWH gardening team are saying goodbye to their petrol-powered equipment with the implementation of new rechargeable, battery-powered tools.<\/strong><\/p>\n

As part of the new Green Metro North – Sustainability Strategy 2021-2026<\/a>, the gardeners will be able to keep the hospital\u2019s beautiful outdoor spaces in tip-top shape while also eliminating carbon emissions.<\/p>\n

In addition to the positive impact electric equipment will have on carbon emissions, the change will also reduce the water usage on site and the constant servicing and filter replacements required for petrol machines.<\/p>\n

RBWH Gardener Mark Kerrisk believes the upgrade will have benefits not only for the environment but for staff and patients on campus as well.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe machines will now be lighter to use with the batteries acting as a counterbalance,\u201d Mark said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWithout petrol engines, this will reduce the smell and noise that can affect patients and staff when being used close to buildings and air-con vents around the campus.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a patient you can now enjoy some outside time without hearing the petrol mower in the background.\u201d<\/p>\n
