In an act of incredible selflessness and generosity, the family of a critically injured Royal Brisbane and Women\u2019s Hospital patient, Alexa Leary, have partnered with the RBWH Foundation to launch a national campaign, #MoveForLex, to raise money for the RBWH Neurology Ward and a new ICU family support program.<\/strong><\/p>\n

20-year old Alexa Leary is already winning hearts in the RBWH Neurology Ward, as are her parents Russell and Belinda, for their positivity and determination.<\/p>\n

On July 17, the young Noosa triathlete suffered life-changing brain injuries in a horrific cycling accident while training on the Sunshine Coast. She spent two weeks in an induced coma in the RBWH Intensive Care Unit and is now undergoing treatment in the Neurology ward.<\/p>\n

Lex has had a very successful triathlon career winning a silver medal in the Junior World Titles in Switzerland two years ago. Her dream was to represent Australia at the Olympics but she is now in the\u00a0 fight of her life to move again.<\/p>\n

#MoveForLex originally began as an Instagram page to encourage the wider community to move for those who can\u2019t and to help Alexa connect with those supporting her recovery.<\/p>\n

In partnership with RBWH Foundation, the Leary Family have channelled that outpouring of support for Lex into a national fundraising appeal<\/p>\n

All funds raised through\u00a0www.moveforlex.com<\/a> will support enhanced care at the RBWH Neurology Ward with a focus on equipment and facilities, and a new ICU family support program called We C U.<\/p>\n

We C U will assist loved ones through the very difficult stages of ICU treatment, focusing on emotional and physical support, in addition to financial and accommodation support.<\/p>\n

All donations to\u00a0#moveforlex\u00a0made through RBWH Foundation will go directly to the purpose for which they are intended \u2013 to reduce trauma and loss suffered by families of ICU patients and to provide enhanced neurological care. No administration fees are deducted. Donations of $2 or more are tax-deductible.<\/p>\n
