{"id":900,"date":"2021-03-10T15:11:35","date_gmt":"2021-03-10T05:11:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/metronorth.health.qld.gov.au\/staff-news\/?p=900"},"modified":"2021-03-10T15:11:35","modified_gmt":"2021-03-10T05:11:35","slug":"symposium-wrap-up","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/metronorth.health.qld.gov.au\/extranet\/newsletters\/news-at-the-royal\/symposium-wrap-up","title":{"rendered":"Symposium wrap-up"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"fusion-fullwidth fullwidth-box fusion-builder-row-1 nonhundred-percent-fullwidth non-hundred-percent-height-scrolling\" style=\"--awb-border-radius-top-left:0px;--awb-border-radius-top-right:0px;--awb-border-radius-bottom-right:0px;--awb-border-radius-bottom-left:0px;--awb-flex-wrap:wrap;\" ><div class=\"fusion-builder-row fusion-row\"><div class=\"fusion-layout-column fusion_builder_column fusion-builder-column-0 fusion_builder_column_1_1 1_1 fusion-one-full fusion-column-first fusion-column-last\" style=\"--awb-bg-size:cover;\"><div class=\"fusion-column-wrapper fusion-column-has-shadow fusion-flex-column-wrapper-legacy\"><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-1\"><p><strong>The Herston Health Precinct Symposium was held in December at the RBWH Conference and Education Centre, hosting a number of local, national and international presenters covering a vast range of topics and interests.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Highlights included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Keynote sessions covering international collaborations, artificial intelligence and augmented reality, and the future of healthcare on a global scale<\/li>\n<li>Celebration of the Year of the Nurse and Midwife, with presentations and panel discussions with nursing leadership from Metro North and our partners<\/li>\n<li>Presentations featuring our existing and emerging Institutes \u2013 Jamieson Trauma Institute, Herston Biofabrication Institute and Herston Infectious Diseases Institute<\/li>\n<li>Consumer engagement sessions, including a Consumer Showcase hosted by the RBWH Foundation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This year also saw a record number of research abstract submissions of 300, 50 of which were selected for oral presentations during the Symposium. These submissions competed for a number of awards sponsored by the RBWH Foundation, and our 2020 winners are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Dr Stephen Morrison Clinical Research Award:<br \/>\nZarnie Lwin, <em>\u2018Psychosocial impacts of COVID-19 on oncology workforces: Metro versus Regional Australia\u2019<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Discovery and Innovation Research Award:<br \/>\nYatika Jivan, <em>\u2018Enhancing outcomes in myeloid malignancies through next generation sequencing: the Queensland Myeloid Genomics Program\u2019<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Professor Laurie Powell Early Career Research Award:<br \/>\nDarius Khadembaschi, <em>\u2018Outcomes of osseointegrated implants for reconstruction of head and neck cancer patients\u2019<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Award for Health Practitioner Research (co-sponsored by the RBWH Foundation and the Collaborative for Allied Health Research Learning and Innovation (CAHRLI)):<br \/>\nEmilie Croisier, <em>\u2018The Clinical and Nutritional Implications of Pelvic Radiotherapy in Patients with Gynaecological Cancers: A Retrospective Observational Study\u2019<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Professor William Egerton Award for Medical Research:<br \/>\nAllegra Boccabella, <em>\u2018Can we ignore a pregnant person\u2019s snore?\u2019<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Nursing Research Award:<br \/>\nEmily Larsen, <em>\u2018Intravenous antimicrobial administration through peripheral venous catheters? Establishing risk profiles from an analysis of 5252 devices\u2019<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Translational Research Award:<br \/>\nErin Huttenmeister, <em>\u2018The addition of physiotherapy to preadmission clinic enhances patient preparedness for elective surgery and is memorable\u2019<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We would like to take this opportunity to thank all those involved in bringing together the Symposium \u2013 without their efforts this event would not have been possible.
