This includes things such as hand hygiene, cleaning, sterilisation, staff health, aseptic technique, transmission based precautions and how we prescribe and deliver antimicrobials.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What can you do to help?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Practice your <a href=\"https:\/\/comms.health.qld.gov.au\/ch\/92002\/73vpj\/2995\/ArXq9El.jvyiJpxIYqPHyNY.2yI3Q4qdcmJ_JIHa.pdf\">5 moments of hand hygiene<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/comms.health.qld.gov.au\/ch\/92002\/73vpj\/2996\/ArXq9El.jvyiJpxIYqPH06HNSf8U5rMX_LK.afrd.pdf\">Be bare below the elbow<\/a> whilst in a clinical area<\/li>\n<li>Always practice principals of <a href=\"https:\/\/comms.health.qld.gov.au\/ch\/92002\/73vpj\/2997\/ArXq9El.jvyiJpxIYqPHKp_OoCzyov_60kZLXOD5.pdf\">Standard precautions<\/a>, this protects both you and the patient from infections.<\/li>\n<li>Be aware of patients under transmission based precautions and know how to identify them.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/comms.health.qld.gov.au\/ch\/92002\/73vpj\/2998\/ArXq9El.jvyiJpxIYqPHYbxfjzVgW8usqNtSYmJR.pdf\">Practice sharp safety<\/a> and ensure sharps bins are used correctly and bracketed or attached to the wall or trolley.<\/li>\n<li>Cleaning of equipment between each patient use.<\/li>\n<li>Be aware that this standard is managed by the STARS Standard 3 Preventing and controlling infections committee and that we are a member of the Metro North Health NSQHS Standard 3 Committee<\/li>\n<li>If you are a clinician, be aware of the following:\n<ul>\n<li>where to locate Infectious Alerts on ieMR<\/li>\n<li>where to locate <a href=\"https:\/\/comms.health.qld.gov.au\/ch\/92002\/73vpj\/2999\/ArXq9El.jvyiJpxIYqPHDXoP8fukWLmfjj35QfGD.html\">Transmission based precautions posters<\/a> in your area and how to read them<\/li>\n<li>how to don and doff personal protective equipment and perform a fit check<\/li>\n<li>where to locate consumer fact sheets relating to Infection Management and Prevention<\/li>\n<li>know who your ward pharmacist is so you can escalate questions about antimicrobials<\/li>\n<li>know what to do if you have an <a href=\"https:\/\/comms.health.qld.gov.au\/ch\/92002\/73vpj\/3000\/ArXq9El.jvyiJpxIYqPHbbRGq6gMU1rNx8NzDFri.html\">occupational exposure<\/a><\/li>\n<li>be familiar with <a href=\"https:\/\/comms.health.qld.gov.au\/ch\/92002\/73vpj\/3001\/ArXq9El.jvyiJpxIYqPH3krxlhm5yTBV35U2oJh7.pdf\">first aid<\/a> post an occupational exposure<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>How do we measure our care?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>NSQHS Standard 3 Interactive Spreadsheets are located on our <a href=\"https:\/\/comms.health.qld.gov.au\/ch\/92002\/73vpj\/3002\/ArXq9El.jvyiJpxIYqPH7B_UcIijK5sCA5LKSMUo.html\">webpage<\/a>.
