Colleagues, it has been a while since I have written to you. What a time we have been having! Between COVID-19 and flooding it has indeed been a challenge for all. I would like to thank each and every nurse and midwife for your continued commitment to the health service.<\/h4>\n

During the flooding it was astounding to see how we pulled together to continue to provide care. To those who moved heaven and earth to get to work, to those who came to work and then could not get home thank you and to those who were stuck in their homes and could not get to work and suffered because of damage please know we were thinking of you and hope recovery for you and your families doesn\u2019t take too long.<\/p>\n

We have seen communications coming out this week in relation to the Metro North Research Excellence Awards and I have had a few enquiries about the Professor Joan Webster Award for nursing and midwifery. Please know that this award is still planned for this year and when an applicant applies for one of the individual categories there is a tick box to advise if you wish to be considered for the Professor Joan Webster Award. This award is only open to nurses and midwives. I do hope we get as many applications for this prestigious award this year as we have in previous years.<\/p>\n

This week we also launched the Metro North Nursing and Midwifery Awards to coincide with International Day of the Midwife and International Nurses Day. Please consider either yourself or your colleagues as a nominee for these awards. It is always wonderful to acknowledge the great work of individuals who go above and beyond in the pursuit of great care for our patients and significant contribution to the organisation. I love this time of year when we can highlight the shining stars in our wonderful health service.<\/p>\n

Always remember our values in action and please never forget that your hard work never ever goes unnoticed. At this time and as we wind down or change the delivery of a number of our COVID related services, I would like to take this opportunity to call out some teams. To the Infection Control teams across the health service and our Pubic Health teams I just want to thank you so very much. Your responsive, can do attitudes have been exceptional. In addition, to the staff working in COVID wards, vaccination, fever clinics and emergency departments as our front line\u2026thank you! I would also like to acknowledge those people who moved from their \u201cusual\u201d place of work into other areas. I am so proud of each and every one of you!<\/p>\n
