She fell in love with midwifery and decided to dedicate her life to the profession.<\/p>\n<p>One of Liz\u2019s proudest moments in her career was diagnosing a vasa praevia, a very rare condition where blood vessels travelling from the baby to the mother\u2019s placenta, unprotected by placental tissue or the umbilical cord, pass near to the cervix, and supporting the mother to safely give birth to a healthy baby.<\/p>\n<p>Over her 50 years as a midwife, Liz has seen a number of significant changes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe no longer use alcohol drips to prevent preterm labour and we\u2019ve also moved away from hospital based training for nurses and midwives,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, Liz prides herself on being kind to her colleagues.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m lucky to work with amazing people every day and I try to treat them the way I would like to be treated,\u201d Liz said.<\/p>\n<p>Well done, Liz, on an incredible 50 years.
