There are new changes to the PPE requirements at STARS. After a thorough risk assessment in line with the updated PPE risk matrix and the Queensland Infection Clinical Network (QICN) exposure risk matrix, the following changes now apply:<\/h4>\n
    \n
  • All staff in in 6A are to remain in<\/strong> P2\/N95 mask<\/strong> whilst they are within 6A and additional eye protection whilst providing care.This clinical ward has been risk assessed aligning with the matrix and has a patient population who is at high risk severe disease for COVID-19.<\/li>\n
  • PACU1 staff are required to wear P2\/N95<\/strong> mask whilst in PACU1 and additional eye protection whilst providing care due to the high rate of Aerosol Generating procedures (AGPs) being performed.<\/li>\n
  • All anaesthetic staff<\/strong> and by staff participating in aerosol generating procedures<\/strong> (e.g. ENT\/ Max Facs\/Endoscopy) will continue to wear protective eyewear and P2\/N95 masks in line with the principals of standard precautions.<\/li>\n
  • Staff attending to patients with Aerosol Generating Items such as Non-Invasive Ventilation (NIV) and Nebulisers are required to wear N95\/P2 and protective eyewear<\/strong> as per the principals of standard precautions.<\/li>\n
  • Patients with confirmed or suspected COVID-19 are to continue to be cared under COVID-19 Transmission Based Precautions: Contact + Airborne + Eye Precautions.<\/li>\n
  • All other staff, including those in non-clinical areas must wear a flat surgical mask at all times and protective eyewear when providing patient care, though may choose to wear a P2\/N95 mask if they prefer.<\/li>\n
  • Protective eyewear is required in all areas, clinical or non-clinical, and anywhere that staff cannot physically distance from patients or one another.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    To assist with this change in PPE requirements, please remember that we are still in Tier 3 and as such, no face-to-face meetings, including case conferences, have been approved. Meetings must remain virtual until otherwise advised<\/strong>. Staff are also strongly encouraged to take lunch breaks outside and avoid gathering in large groups in the tea rooms.<\/p>\n

    Staff are still required to check<\/strong> in with the Qld Check-In App upon entering the building.<\/p>\n

    This situation will be closely monitored by EOC and Infection Management and Prevention Service (IMPS), and adjustments will be made as necessary to maintain the safety of both staff and patients.<\/p>\n
