Metro North Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer Alanna Geary walked 190m in the name of nurses and midwives.<\/p><\/div>\n

Metro North Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer Alanna Geary got her steps in for a great cause during the recent Catch the Chief initiative as part of International Day of the Midwife and International Nurses Day celebrations.<\/h4>\n

Walking for eight hours a day for five days across Metro North facilities, Alanna walked more than 190kms and raised over $6,100 for nursing and midwifery research and education.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The idea came as a way of recognising nurses and midwives for the long distances they walk every day in their roles.<\/p>\n

Alanna said the week was challenging at times, but was made so much more wonderful by the people who stopped by to say hello. Other supporters delivered coffee, jellybeans and lollies, and there were colleagues who \u201csubbed\u201d in and out for comfort breaks and lunch and her amazing Executive Support Officer who kept the diary ticking over and made sure the emails were answered.<\/p>\n

\u201cCatch the Chief was set up as a fundraising event, however, I loved the opportunity to walk and talk with our nurses and midwives. I know that our nurses and midwives walk for more than eight hours every day and that\u2019s what motivated me to keep going,\u201d Alanna said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI must admit that mid-week my legs were very sore, and I was wondering how I would finish, but it is amazing what can be achieved when there is such wonderful support and engagement.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo each and every nurse and midwife at RBWH, please know that I walk with you and think about you, what you do and how you do it every single day.\u00a0You provide an amazing service to our patients and their families and you do it with professionalism and passion.\u00a0 Be proud of what you achieve and know that you are most valued.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>
