This surge is estimated to last for weeks to a few months. So we need to change gear\u00a0<em>again<\/em>\u00a0\u2026 this time it\u2019s back to COVID Tier 3.<\/h4>\n<p>Each time we go through a surge we\u00a0<em>learn, learn, learn<\/em>. So this Tier 3 will be\u00a0<em>subtlely different<\/em>\u00a0to previous experiences:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Staff need to wear\u00a0<strong>N95 masks &amp; eyewear<\/strong>\u00a0in all clinical areas and in areas where you can\u2019t socially distance from groups.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Outpatients and Theatre<\/strong>\u00a0will be making adjustments, in order to optimise bedspace and redeployment of staff who can look after acute medical admissions. More online, less f2f.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Education and meetings<\/strong>\u00a0will stop, unless they are essential. Ie. Focussed on\n<ul>\n<li>COVID or OVP or critical care skills or Fire\/Gen Evac training<\/li>\n<li>Redevelopment preparations (we need to be ready to move in less than 12 months)<\/li>\n<li>Workforce preparations<\/li>\n<li>Quality &amp; safety<\/li>\n<li>Finance<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Meetings which do occur, need to occur online or with masks\/eyewear (we want to\u00a0<strong>minimise sick leave<\/strong>, to look after our teams)<\/li>\n<li>Avoid being close to people without masks (please think about wearing a mask to the\u00a0<strong>supermarket<\/strong>)<\/li>\n<li>Having trouble getting in to your\u00a0<strong>GP<\/strong>, please consider a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hotdoc.com.au\/search?in=redcliffe-QLD-4020&amp;purpose=respiratory&amp;where=service%3Arespiratory\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-linkindex=\"0\">GP Respiratory Clinics<\/a>.\u00a0They have space and are prepared to see people face to face.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This surge gives us another opportunity to work out better ways to provide healthcare. We need to pull together and identify where the value is in what we do.
