Adj. Assoc. Prof. Sally Taranec, Acting Executive Director, Redcliffe Hospital<\/p><\/div>\n

I’m pleased to say that\u00a0Redcliffe Hospital Giving Day<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0was a huge success again this year.<\/p>\n

Thanks to everyone’s hard work and the generosity of our local community; we raised more than $224,000 to support our hospital and its patients. We could not have done it without the help of our philanthropic partner, the RBWH Foundation, or the inspired efforts of so many hospital staff.<\/p>\n

The bake sale at the hospital raised close to $4,000, and Jacqui Nix’s donation of her hair for cancer care wigs raised another $2,700. We had staff volunteering their own time at Bunnings sausage sizzles and in the phone action hub on the day, making and taking calls for donations.<\/p>\n

The funds raised will support another round of Wish List grants later this year and\u00a0Raise it for Redcliffe’s major project of making the Rehabilitation Unit and Palliative Care Unit more like home for patients and their families.<\/p>\n

Along with fundraising, the day was about our community saying thank you to our hospital, with many patients and former patients\u00a0sharing their stories<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and leaving\u00a0messages of gratitude for hospital staff<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Thank you to everyone who donated their time, their energy, and their support to help us\u00a0Raise it for Redcliffe Hospital\u00a0again this year.<\/p>\n

#IamRedcliffe\u00a0Team of the Month<\/h2>\n

At our Staff Forum this week, we announced the October #IamRedcliffe<\/strong>\u00a0Team of the Month. There were five nominees this month, including Vanessa Reilly, Tammy Lazaaras, Eileen Timms, and the Paediatric Ward.<\/p>\n

Congratulations this month to Judy Sabzivand from 5 East. Judy received the award for being a caring and compassionate team leader who brings happiness and positivity to her ward.<\/p>\n

Nominations are now open for November’s\u00a0#IamRedcliffe<\/strong>Team of the Month<\/strong><\/a>. You can also acknowledge and thank others<\/strong> by sending an\u00a0#IamRedcliffe<\/strong>\u00a0Staff Thank You<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0or a\u00a0Metro North Staff Shout Out<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Listening Post next Monday<\/h2>\n

On Monday, we’ll have the Metro North Chief Executive, Jackie Hanson and our Chief Operating Officer, Jane Hancock, with us for a Listening Post. These are informal sessions where staff can drop by to have a quick chat with the CE and COO, ask questions, or make suggestions about how to make Redcliffe and Metro North a truly great place to work. The Listening Post will be in Lecture Room 1 in the Education Centre between 10am and Noon next Monday.<\/p>\n

Have Your Say Staff Survey\u00a0update<\/h2>\n

Back in March, Metro North Health announced more than $165,000 worth of upgrades and improvements to staff areas based on what we heard in the Have Your Say Staff Survey.<\/strong><\/p>\n

One of those projects was upgrading the Operating Theatre change rooms and lockers on Level 2. That upgrade is about to start and should be complete by the end of November.<\/p>\n

During the works, staff who use this area can expect some disruption. Temporary staff facilities will be available, and how staff access their areas will change while the works are underway. There is no disruption expected for clinical areas.<\/p>\n

Get Ready Queensland<\/h2>\n

When it comes to severe weather in Queensland, it’s not a question of ‘if’ but ‘when’. As a hospital and health service, Metro North is preparing for what may be ahead of us this summer storm season.

More awards for our care of stroke patients<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Last year Redcliffe Hospital was one of only 13 in Australia to receive an Excellence Award from the Stroke Foundation. Now, our Rehabilitation Unit has received two awards from the Australasian Rehabilitation Outcomes Centre (AROC), including one for excellent outcomes in stroke rehabilitation. The other award from AROC was for outstanding improvement in orthopaedic fracture outcomes.
\nCongratulations to our stroke team and Rehabilitation Unit on these awards and on bringing their A-game and encouraging others to do the same.<\/strong><\/p>\n

On a personal note from me<\/h2>\n

Thank you to Sally Taranec for acting as Executive Director while I was away.<\/p>\n

This week, I’ve had the opportunity to talk with several staff members – including an excellent nurse who has returned to the hospital after a couple of years. I’ve also had some good chats with nurses and midwives in maternity and paediatrics on Level 3.\u00a0Over the next few weeks, I’m looking forward to spending more time visiting with wards and services across the hospital. It’s all part of\u00a0listening to understand so that we make the best decisions. #IamRedcliffe.<\/strong><\/p>\n
