About the project<\/h3>\n

The Herston Biofabrication Institute<\/a> in partnership with the Health Improvement Unit is undertaking a scoping project focussed on the mapping of 3D printing activities, capabilities, resources, enablers, and challenges across Queensland Health Hospital and Health Services.<\/p>\n

Point of care manufacturing (PoCM) reliant on 3D modelling and 3D printing has well demonstrated benefits in the context of surgery, particularly with disciplines such as orthopaedics, maxillo-facial surgery, vascular surgery, neurosurgery or cardiac surgery. PoCM including the use of 3D technologies, to advance precision medicine is rapidly advancing in Australia and there is growing regulatory oversight that is proposed by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA). This state-wide scoping of PoCM activities project outcomes will form a significant building block to enabling a networked and coordinated approach to PoCM that drives compliance with the new regulatory requirements and facilitate ubiquitous access to PoCM of medical devices throughout Queensland.<\/p>\n
