Attendees had the opportunity to engage directly with the team, examine physical models, discuss clinical applications, and gain insight into the collaborative process behind each project.

The presentations highlighted four key areas of expertise:

Surgical Guides & Workflow Automation

Presented by Nick Green, this session demonstrated how digital workflows and patient-specific surgical guides can streamline clinical processes, reduce complexity, and support precision in the operating theatre.

Product Development & Clinical Training Models

Presented by Roozbeh Fakhr and Ryan Daley, attendees discovered how HBI collaborates with clinicians and industry partners to transform concepts into functional products and realistic clinical training models. The presentation explored the role of advanced manufacturing in education, simulation, and healthcare innovation.

Applications of SLA Printing in a Healthcare Setting

Presented by Roozbeh Fakhr, this session showcased the use of stereolithography (SLA) printing in areas including burns care and brachytherapy. Visitors were able to see examples of highly customised patient-specific solutions created to address unique clinical needs.

World-Leading Capabilities in Anatomical Models and Surgical Simulation Development

Presented by Liam Georgeson, this presentation demonstrated how medical imaging data can be transformed into highly accurate anatomical models and surgical simulations. From vascular cases to procedure rehearsal and medical training, attendees gained insight into how these technologies are helping clinicians plan and prepare with greater confidence.

What made the event particularly engaging was the opportunity to move beyond the presentation slides and interact directly with the technology. Around the room, visitors examined anatomical replicas, training models, surgical simulation components, treatment devices and digital reconstructions generated from real clinical imaging data.

Conversations flowed naturally as guests asked questions, shared experiences, and explored the possibilities of advanced manufacturing in healthcare. Complex concepts became tangible through hands-on demonstrations, allowing attendees to see, touch, and better understand how innovation can translate into clinical impact.

Behind every anatomical model, surgical guide, and simulation showcased during the Open Day lies a shared goal: improving outcomes for patients. By bringing together clinicians, researchers, industry partners, and innovators, HBI continues to demonstrate that the future of healthcare is built not by a single discipline, but through the power of collaboration.

For one afternoon, the doors of HBI opened to a diverse community of clinicians, industry partners, students, hospital staff, researchers, and professionals from across healthcare and technology sectors.

[8

post-3068","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-hbi-news
["GET
https://metronorth.health.qld.gov.au/herston-biofabrication-institute/wp-json/wp/v2/comments?post=3068
https://metronorth.health.qld.gov.au/herston-biofabrication-institute/wp-json/wp/v2/posts/3068/revisions
https://metronorth.health.qld.gov.au/herston-biofabrication-institute/wp-json/wp/v2/posts/3068/revisions/3071
https://metronorth.health.qld.gov.au/herston-biofabrication-institute/wp-json/wp/v2/media?parent=3068
https://metronorth.health.qld.gov.au/herston-biofabrication-institute/wp-json/wp/v2/categories?post=3068
