Research at Caboolture Hospital aims to detect serious heart conditions earlier<\/h1>\n

A Caboolture Hospital cardiologist is conducting research to advance the use of sophisticated heart imaging to better identify heart failure and pulmonary hypertension before symptoms significantly progress.<\/h4>\n

Clinical Cardiologist and Echocardiologist Dr Pyi Naing has been part of the hospital\u2019s Cardiology team for two years, providing both inpatient and outpatient cardiac care, with a strong focus on advanced echocardiography.<\/p>\n

His research centres on heart failure, pulmonary hypertension and advanced cardiac imaging, particularly the use of echocardiography to improve early diagnosis and risk stratification.<\/p>\n

He is especially interested in identifying imaging markers that can better predict patient outcomes, guide treatment decisions and streamline diagnostic pathways for patients presenting with complex or unexplained breathlessness.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was inspired by how often conditions such as heart failure and pulmonary hypertension are diagnosed late, when symptoms have already progressed,\u201d Dr Naing said.<\/p>\n

\u201cHigh-quality imaging allows us to identify problems earlier, when treatment is most effective.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dr Naing has completed a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) and recently submitted his PhD, which explores innovative approaches to improving care for patients presenting with breathlessness \u2014 one of the most common and challenging symptoms seen in cardiology.<\/p>\n

Beyond early detection, his work also aims to improve the clarity and usefulness of cardiac imaging reports, ensuring that referring clinicians and patients can better understand findings and act on them with confidence.<\/p>\n

For patients, the impact is tangible. Earlier detection and more accurate assessment can lead to timelier treatment, fewer unnecessary procedures and more targeted investigations.<\/p>\n

\u201cClearer reporting also strengthens communication, helping patients feel more informed and supported throughout their care.\u201d<\/p>\n

In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Dr Naing remains actively involved in ongoing research projects, peer review of scientific publications and year-round teaching commitments.<\/p>\n

Clinically, he prioritises timely access for urgent referrals and maintains a rapid turnaround for echocardiography reporting \u2014 a key factor in supporting safe, efficient patient care.<\/p>\n
