Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resource (FHIR) is the fundamental standard developed by Health Level Seven (HL7) and is an interoperability specification for the exchange of healthcare information electronically.

This month’s Queensland Digital Health Grand Rounds will explore FHIR concepts, underpinned by real-world examples that demonstrate how this standard effectively supports the exchange of information and the development of apps.

Associate Professor Liam Caffery

Liam Caffery is an Associate Professor in Telehealth and the Director of Telehealth Technology at the University of Queensland. Liam has extensive experience as a health informatician. Prior to his academic appointment, Liam had 27 years’ service with Queensland Health in various roles. These included as a HL7 developer and later as the first Manager of Medical Imaging Informatics at RBWH. Liam currently chairs the DICOM Dermatology Working Group and is the technology lead for the Australian Centre of Excellence in Melanoma Imaging and Diagnosis.
