    Visiting<\/h2>\n

    We encourage family and friends to visit our patients during their stay.<\/p>\n

    Whilst visiting hours are flexible. Some wards\/areas have restricted visiting hours due to the nature of care being provided in that particular clinical area, as well as patient rest periods.<\/p>\n

    There may be times when visitors are asked to leave the ward so that treatment can be provided, and we appreciate everyone\u2019s cooperation and understanding.<\/p>\n

    Before you visit, we encourage you to call ahead and talk to ward staff about the particular visiting arrangements for the ward where their relative or friend is staying.<\/p>\n

    To contact a ward, phone our switchboard on (07)\u00a03883 7777 and ask to be put through.<\/p>\n

    Virtual Visits<\/h2>\n

    Technology makes it easier to stay in touch with patients during their stay in the hospital.\u00a0 If you can\u2019t visit in person, a virtual visit may be a good alternative.<\/p>\n

    We encourage our patients to stay connected with their friends and family through their mobile phone or device.<\/p>\n

    There is also free WiFi available throughout the hospital.<\/p>\n<\/div>

    Toilets<\/h2>\n

    General and disabled toilets are located on every floor of the hospital for patient and visitor use. Baby change rooms are located in Outpatients department and Maternity.\u00a0 Please ask staff for the toilet closest to you.<\/p>\n<\/div>

    Bringing food for patients<\/h2>\n

    We advise visitors who wish to bring food for patients to choose low risk food and check with staff before giving to their relative. Please note we do not take responsibility for food that is brought in by visitors for patients.<\/p>\n<\/div>

    Quiet places<\/h2>\n

    Healing garden<\/h3>\n

    Our Healing Garden provides a quiet space for staff and visitors, in particular Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander visitors and patients. The snake-like pathway design through the garden is lined with river stones and native plants to attract native birds and other wildlife.<\/p>\n

    Garden of reflection<\/h3>\n

    The Garden of reflection is a tranquil quiet space for patients and visitors to take some time out away from the busy hospital.<\/p>\n

    Chapel<\/h3>\n

    The Chapel is open to people of all faiths or for those needing a quiet place of refection and is located near the Palliative Care and Rehabilitation Unit.\u00a0Chaplains offer spiritual support and pastoral care to patients, visitors and staff. This includes:<\/p>\n

      \n
    • an accepting, compassionate, respectful and attentive presence to people of all or no particular faith<\/li>\n
    • help and support in times of stress or crisis<\/li>\n
    • prayers and the sacraments (eg communion) where appropriate<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      If you wish to arrange the services of a minister of religion please ask the ward staff. Bibles are available on request.\u00a0For more information or would like to speak to a chaplain phone (07) 3883 7878.<\/p>\n<\/div>

      Expectations on entry<\/h2>\n

      We’re committed to delivering excellent patient-centred care and high-quality health services and ask that you treat our staff with respect.<\/p>\n

      To provide a safe and comfortable environment where patients, visitors and staff are treated with respect and dignity, the following behaviours are not acceptable:<\/p>\n

        \n
      • Aggressive behaviour, harassment and intimidation<\/li>\n
      • Rude or threatening language or name calling<\/li>\n
      • Physical attacks to people or property<\/li>\n
      • Obscene, racist, sexist or demeaning language<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        Refusal to comply with these behaviour expectations may result in removal or discharge from the hospital.<\/p>\n

        Our staff are required to report all incidents. Security officers are available 24\/7 and can be called in any situation where people feel threatened or unsafe and, in some situations, police will be called. Assault is a crime and it is our policy to cooperate with police to prosecute anyone who assaults a healthcare worker.<\/p>\n
