{"id":2082,"date":"2021-08-13T14:15:24","date_gmt":"2021-08-13T04:15:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/metronorth.health.qld.gov.au\/staff-news\/?p=2082"},"modified":"2021-08-13T14:17:07","modified_gmt":"2021-08-13T04:17:07","slug":"21-08-13-edhssp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/metronorth.health.qld.gov.au\/staff-news\/executive-messages\/edhssp\/2021\/08\/21-08-13-edhssp","title":{"rendered":"Message from the Executive Director Health Service Strategy &amp; Planning: Colleen Jen"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"fusion-fullwidth fullwidth-box fusion-builder-row-1 fusion-flex-container nonhundred-percent-fullwidth non-hundred-percent-height-scrolling\" style=\"--awb-border-radius-top-left:0px;--awb-border-radius-top-right:0px;--awb-border-radius-bottom-right:0px;--awb-border-radius-bottom-left:0px;--awb-flex-wrap:wrap;\" ><div class=\"fusion-builder-row fusion-row fusion-flex-align-items-flex-start fusion-flex-content-wrap\" style=\"max-width:1352px;margin-left: calc(-4% \/ 2 );margin-right: calc(-4% \/ 2 );\"><div class=\"fusion-layout-column fusion_builder_column fusion-builder-column-0 fusion_builder_column_1_1 1_1 fusion-flex-column\" style=\"--awb-bg-size:cover;--awb-width-large:100%;--awb-margin-top-large:0px;--awb-spacing-right-large:1.92%;--awb-margin-bottom-large:20px;--awb-spacing-left-large:1.92%;--awb-width-medium:100%;--awb-order-medium:0;--awb-spacing-right-medium:1.92%;--awb-spacing-left-medium:1.92%;--awb-width-small:100%;--awb-order-small:0;--awb-spacing-right-small:1.92%;--awb-spacing-left-small:1.92%;\"><div class=\"fusion-column-wrapper fusion-column-has-shadow fusion-flex-justify-content-flex-start fusion-content-layout-column\"><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-1\"><p>Dear colleagues,<\/p>\n<p>Improving the health and wellbeing outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples remains a priority for Metro North Health.\u00a0The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Leadership Team will be leading the development of\u00a0the Metro North Health Equity Strategy with the support of the Health Service Strategy and Planning team over the next nine months.<\/p>\n<p>It is key that the voice of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples is reflected within the strategy.\u00a0Metro North Health will work closely with all stakeholders and key partners including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community-controlled sector to co-design, co-own and co-implement the Strategy.<\/p>\n<p>The Metro North Health Equity Strategy will develop\u00a0actions to improve the\u00a0health and wellbeing outcomes for Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islander peoples, including to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>actively eliminate racial discrimination and institutional racism within the Hospital and Health Service<\/li>\n<li>acknowledge, understand and decrease the health disparities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and increase access to healthcare services<\/li>\n<li>influence the social, cultural and economic determinants of health by ensuring self-determination strategies for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are integrated at all levels of placed-based solutions<\/li>\n<li>co-design, co-implement and co-evaluate sustainable, culturally safe and responsive healthcare services.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The strategy will build on the foundations of the <em>Better Together Health Plan&nbsp;2019-2022<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>For us to be successful in achieving health equity for Aboriginal and the Torres Strait Islander communities, we must work together.
