As\u00a0healthcare professionals,\u00a0we\u00a0sometimes\u00a0witness\u00a0the\u00a0most remarkable\u00a0demonstrations\u00a0of resilience.\u00a0RBWH patient\u00a0Hasitha\u00a0De Silva had the odds stacked against him,\u00a0but thanks to the care from the RBWH\u00a0team, his\u00a0fighting\u00a0spirit\u00a0and his spirituality,\u00a0he is back doing what he loves.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n

In October 2020,\u00a039-year-old\u00a0Hasitha\u00a0was\u00a0running on a treadmill\u00a0when he had a seizure and was\u00a0transported by ambulance to RBWH. Here, he was\u00a0diagnosed with stage 4 Glioblastoma multiform was given\u00a0just\u00a012-14 months to survive.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

With a wife, two children aged 13 and 8, and a whole life ahead of him,\u00a0Hasitha\u00a0was completely shocked.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In the coming months, he\u00a0became paralysed and his left side became immovable. He was in and out of the hospital many times with\u00a0chemotherapy\u00a0and\u00a0radiation\u00a0therapy.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"I've held a belief since I was a child that the universe has no problems without a solution. We just need to\u00a0seek\u00a0until we find the right solution. Therefore, I was\u00a0very optimistic\u00a0about my recovery, while appreciating the seriousness of my illness,\"\u00a0Hasitha\u00a0said.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>\"My journey has been emotionally and mentally tough, however I did everything in my power to get better including\u00a0<\/span>adhering to medical advice, following spiritual believes and fully committing to physiotherapy programs.\"<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Fast forward to\u00a0November,\u00a0Hasitha\u00a0has\u00a0made\u00a0a remarkable recovery. He is almost back to normal and\u00a0can\u00a0run\u00a0a few\u00a0kilometres each\u00a0day.\u00a0His MRI scans\u00a0have shown a major reduction in the size of the tumour. \u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Without the teams from neurology, neurosurgery, oncology,\u00a0radiation, ED, physiotherapy, social work and brain,\u00a0head\u00a0and neck, I wouldn't be where I am today.\"\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
