After a very long stay in hospital Robert has now found his forever home at Cooinda House.<\/p><\/div>\n

After spending more than 250 days in hospital due to a complex health condition,\u00a0former\u00a0aged care resident Robert has found his\u00a0new\u00a0forever home at\u00a0Cooinda\u00a0House.<\/h4>\n

Specialised\u00a0Age Care Nursing Director Belinda\u00a0Sawtell\u00a0said unfortunately\u00a0due to Robert\u2019s health care needs he couldn\u2019t\u00a0return and\u00a0be supported by a residential aged care facility or within the community.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cClinicians\u00a0and teams from three Metro North hospitals and facilities\u00a0have\u00a0worked\u00a0together to find a solution for Robert\u2019s ongoing care, after he spent\u00a0months\u00a0at Redcliffe Hospital,\u201d she said.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhile at Redcliffe, he had a central venous device (CVAD) inserted, allowing him to receive care he required to improve his quality of life.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

For most\u00a0patients\u00a0with a CVAD\u00a0they\u00a0will have the device removed before they leave hospital, however this was not the case for\u00a0Robert\u00a0and\u00a0he\u00a0will need his CVAD for the rest of his life.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhile at Redcliffe, it became apparent that because of his CVAD and higher-level care needs, his residential aged care facility would not be able to care for him, when it was time for him to go home.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Now,\u00a0thankfully\u00a0Robert has found his forever home at Cooinda House.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a\u00a0collaborative\u00a0effort between Redcliffe Hospital clinicians, Royal Brisbane and Women\u2019s Hospital nutrition services, and Community and Oral Health teams to develop a long-term plan,\u201d Belinda said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt was an exciting opportunity to upskill the workforce and provide a safe and caring home for Robert.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

At\u00a0Cooinda House\u00a0more than\u00a020 registered nurses undertook a\u00a0two-day training courses\u00a0to upskill and gain the qualifications needed to care for\u00a0Robert.<\/p>\n

\u201cNursing staff also spent time at Redcliffe Hospital to further embed their skills\u00a0to care for residents\u00a0while\u00a0building lasting working relationships,\u201d she said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Belinda said the\u00a0story has identified the\u00a0ongoing commitment to making a difference in people’s lives in residential aged care, through staff responsiveness and a strong commitment to the Metro North\u00a0Health\u00a0values.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Robert has settled into Cooinda and is an active participant in the home and in the community.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
