We have held a series of Compassion Labs with Mary Freer across the health service which have been well received. Mary\u2019s four steps of compassion are to show up, understand, move closer and act. These steps can help us focus on being the kindest and nicest health service, not only to our patients but to each other. If you want to learn more, Mary\u2019s website has a series of videos of talks at last year\u2019s Compassion Conference<\/a>.<\/h4>\n

It\u2019s good to see the enthusiasm for implementing our health equity strategy across Metro North. At next week\u2019s health equity vidcast, our Executive Director of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Sherry Holzapfel and I will have a soft launch of the new Metro North discharge with support policy. The vidcast will be at 1pm on Thursday. The link will be sent closer to the date. Please tune in if you can.<\/p>\n

I have been enjoying talking with staff and hearing your thoughts and suggestions at the Listening Posts. Last week at Caboolture Hospital I talked to a Nurse Practitioner who suggested we could improve the structure of the Nurse Practitioner program in Metro North. Nurse Practitioners play an important role in specialist patient care across the health service and I\u2019m happy to take the feedback on board. \u00a0<\/p>\n

This week we launched the tickets for our Metro North Staff Excellence Awards gala dinner<\/a>. The gala dinner is an opportunity to recognise our achievements for the year together. The event includes dinner, a great band (and dancefloor) and the chance to celebrate with our colleagues. Tickets are $70 each or $560 for a table of eight. The gala dinner will be held on Friday 9 December at Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.<\/p>\n

Congratulations to Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer Alanna Geary who last night was recognised as the Highly Commended Alumnus in Health and Wellbeing for the University of Southern Queensland.<\/p>\n

We\u2019re expecting a wet weekend across South East Queensland. Our health services are prepared in case of localised flooding. Please be safe, pay attention to alerts, and remember: if it\u2019s flooded, forget it!<\/p>\n
