Professor David Copland is Co-Director of the STARS Education and Research Alliance and Director of the Queensland Aphasia Research Centre. David is a speech pathologist and internationally recognised expert in post-stroke aphasia rehabilitation. He leads the Neurobiological and Psychosocial Predictors of Recovery Program of the NHMRC Centre of Research Excellence in Aphasia Recovery and Rehabilitation and leads the Cognition and Aphasia Working Group of the International Collaboration of Aphasia Trialists. His program of research investigates the neurobiology of language, predictors and mechanisms of aphasia recovery, and the development and delivery of aphasia treatments. A particular focus is the implementation of comprehensive intensive aphasia programs, applications of technology in rehabilitation, and consumer engagement and capacity building. David has published over 190 papers, held ARC and NHMRC fellowships, and been awarded over $17 million in competitive research grants. He has received multiple awards including NHMRC Research Excellence Award and the Elizabeth Usher Speech Pathology Australia Award. He has supervised 21 PhD students to completion (15 as primary supervisor, 3 awarded Dean\u2019s Commendations) and has been Director of Higher Degree Research for the University of Queensland School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences.<\/p>\n
