Dr Niru Mahendran is a physiotherapist and researcher in neurological rehabilitation. She is an experienced researcher in post-stroke rehabilitation and physical activity. Her current research explores the active ingredients of neurological rehabilitation and collaborative system level approaches and redesign to improve care and outcomes for people with stroke. Niru is committed to delivering high quality, high impact, and clinically relevant research, with her work recognised nationally and internationally through awards from the Australian and New Zealand Stroke Organisation, Endeavour Foundation and Australian Institute of Policy and Science. She is the current Chair of a national collaboration targeting improved physical activity and fitness outcomes after stroke, the current Vice Chair for the QLD Chapter of the National Neurological Group (Australian Physiotherapy Association) and the Research Chair for the Queensland Rehabilitation Physiotherapy Network. Niru has supervised 5 PhD students (2 completed) and over 17 advanced research students. Prior to her role as a Conjoint Research Fellow at the STARS Education and Research Alliance, Niru was a Lecturer in Physiotherapy at The University of Queensland, Assistant Professor at the University of Canberra, and Physiotherapist at the Princess Alexandra Hospital (QLD).<\/p>\n
