We will send you instructions with your appointment letter.<\/li>\n<li>Please tell us if you are or suspect you might be pregnant or are breastfeeding. \u00b7 Please arrive 30 minutes before your appointment to complete an <a href=\"https:\/\/metronorth.health.qld.gov.au\/rbwh\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2017\/06\/mri-safety-questionnaire.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MRI Safety Questionnaire<\/a> (patients to complete first page ONLY and bring with you to your MRI appointment) to ensure you are safe to enter the MRI room.<\/li>\n<li>You will need to remove all items of jewellery and clothing which contain metal such as buttons, zips, wire in undergarments, keys and credit cards.<\/li>\n<li>You will be allocated a change cubicle and instructed to put on a gown.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>What happens during the procedure?<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>You will be asked to lie on a detachable table which will be wheeled and docked on the MRI scanner.<\/li>\n<li>The MRI machine is like a long cylinder that is open at both ends.<\/li>\n<li>The machine is very noisy and you may hear thumping and knocking sounds (like a jackhammer). You will be offered ear plugs or headphones and music.<\/li>\n<li>You will not feel anything during the scan. Different pieces of equipment may be placed over you, depending on the body part being imaged.<\/li>\n<li>MRI staff will not be in the room with you during the scan but can see and talk to you at all times. You will be given a call button to use if you need help.<\/li>\n<li>The scan will take between 15 and 90 minutes. It is extremely important that you keep completely still during the scan. Any movement can blur the pictures.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Contrast<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Depending on the area being scanned, you may be given MRI contrast.<\/li>\n<li>A fine needle (IV cannula) will be put into a vein in your arm to inject the MRI contrast.<\/li>\n<li>For more information on MRI contrast and the risks involved in its use, please read the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.health.qld.gov.au\/__data\/assets\/pdf_file\/0029\/154487\/medical_imaging_82.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MRI Contrast Patient Information Sheet<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>What happens after the procedure?<\/h2>\n<p>You can eat and drink normally after your scan is finished.
