If your child needs to stay in hospital, we have a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/metronorth.health.qld.gov.au\/tpch\/healthcare-services\/paediatric-services#ward\">Children\u2019s Ward<\/a><span style=\"line-height: inherit;\">\u00a0with sleeping facilities for parents and carers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Your child may meet and be cared for by a variety of staff experienced in paediatric emergency medicine. Our Children\u2019s ED Team includes paediatric emergency physicians, paediatricians, nurses, technicians, patient support assistants and allied health staff including dietitians, physiotherapists, social workers and psychologists.<\/p>\n<p>Surgical conditions such as fractures and orthopaedic injuries and ear nose and throat conditions are assessed and managed by our specialists in emergency. We try our best to see every patient within a timely manner. Some children who are more unwell may be seen ahead of your child and this may result in an unpredictable waiting period. We ask that you be patient while we deliver the best possible care to all our patients. There are no wards specifically for private patients only. The bed you are allocated depends on how sick you are or what type of illness you have. Your bed allocation may change during your stay. This is the case whether you are a public or private patient. Single room allocation is based on clinical need and in line with various management strategies for at-risk patients.\r\n<h3>Television hire<\/h3>\r\nTelevision hire, including pay TV and movies, is available at your bedside. Please ask your nurse or ward staff for more information. Please consider other patients and keep noise to a minimum. Basic earphones are supplied or you can use your own personal earphones to ensure other patients are not disturbed.\r\n<h3>Call button<\/h3>\r\nIf you require help, you can alert our nursing staff by pressing a green call button located at your bedside. Alternatively, you can use the green call button on the walls in the bedrooms, showers, toilets or lounge areas. Please do not let children press these buttons.\r\n<h3>Bedside phones<\/h3>\r\nPhones are installed at most bedsides throughout the hospital.\r\n<h4>Incoming calls<\/h4>\r\nDepending on your condition, incoming calls can be put through to the bedside phone between 8am and 8pm. Relatives and visitors calling patients who have bedside phones should phone the Patient Enquiry Number on (07) 3139 4000 and ask for the patient by name.\r\n<h4>External calls<\/h4>\r\nTo make external phone calls, patients must purchase a phone card from the Common Good Cafe. It is your responsibility to provide these items. Some items are available to purchase at the Common Good Cafe.\r\n<h3>Dentures, glasses and aids<\/h3>\r\nYour items can be easily misplaced in a busy environment. It might be helpful to name your items. Please bring a container or bag to store your dentures, glasses or hearing aids. Ask staff if you need a denture container.\r\n<h3>Electrical appliances<\/h3>\r\nWhile in hospital, you are not permitted to use personal electrical appliances that require plugging into an electrical point. animation_speed=\"0.3\" animation_offset=\"\"]\r\n<h2>Leaving hospital (discharge)<\/h2>\r\nBefore you leave hospital, we will work with you and your family to identify services that will assist in your recovery and plan your discharge to leave hospital. Your discharge plan may include extra support services at a different facility, home or follow up appointments. Please ask your nurse to refer you to the appropriate staff or allied health staff member to help you with your discharge needs.\r\n\r\nWe aim to have you discharged by <strong>10.00am<\/strong> on the day you go home. Before leaving, you will need to arrange for someone to collect you from the hospital. Please check that you have:\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>arranged transport home with a support person prior to discharge<\/li>\r\n \t<li>gathered all personal belongings including valuables in the Trust Office<\/li>\r\n \t<li>collected discharge medications, scripts required and x-rays<\/li>\r\n \t<li>follow-up appointments (if necessary)<\/li>\r\n \t<li>travel forms signed (if necessary)<\/li>\r\n \t<li>a medical certificate for your employer or sickness benefit (available on request from your doctor)<\/li>\r\n \t<li>a medical discharge summary for your general practitioner<\/li>\r\n \t<li>referral forms (if services have been arranged for you).<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\nIf you wish to leave the hospital against the advice of your doctor, you will be asked to sign a form to this effect.\r\n\r\n[\/fusion_text][fusion_menu_anchor name=\"transfer\" class=\"\" \/][fusion_menu_anchor name=\"pick-up\" class=\"\" \/][fusion_text columns=\"\" column_min_width=\"\" column_spacing=\"\" rule_style=\"default\" rule_size=\"\" rule_color=\"\" content_alignment_medium=\"\" content_alignment_small=\"\" content_alignment=\"\" hide_on_mobile=\"small-visibility,medium-visibility,large-visibility\" sticky_display=\"normal,sticky\" class=\"\" id=\"leaving-transport\" font_size=\"\" fusion_font_family_text_font=\"\" fusion_font_variant_text_font=\"\" line_height=\"\" letter_spacing=\"\" text_color=\"\" animation_type=\"\" animation_direction=\"left\" animation_speed=\"0.3\" animation_offset=\"\"]\r\n<h2>Transport and transfers home<\/h2>\r\nYou will need to arrange private transport home with a support person. If you require a taxi or other private transport, please notify a staff member and they can help arrange this. Ambulance transport will be organised for you only if your treating team believe it is necessary. The physiotherapist or your family will need to make arrangements to hire appliances or aids from a private supplier.\r\n\r\n[\/fusion_text][fusion_menu_anchor name=\"medication-when-you-leave\" class=\"\" \/][fusion_text columns=\"\" column_min_width=\"\" column_spacing=\"\" rule_style=\"default\" rule_size=\"\" rule_color=\"\" content_alignment_medium=\"\" content_alignment_small=\"\" content_alignment=\"\" hide_on_mobile=\"small-visibility,medium-visibility,large-visibility\" sticky_display=\"normal,sticky\" class=\"\" id=\"\" font_size=\"\" fusion_font_family_text_font=\"\" fusion_font_variant_text_font=\"\" line_height=\"\" letter_spacing=\"\" text_color=\"\" animation_type=\"\" animation_direction=\"left\" animation_speed=\"0.3\" animation_offset=\"\"]\r\n<h2>Medication when you leave<\/h2>\r\nOn discharge, the pharmacist will review your <a href=\"https:\/\/metronorth.health.qld.gov.au\/tpch\/healthcare-services\/pharmacy\">medications<\/a>\u00a0and discuss with you which medications you will need to take home. The Pharmacy Department will give you 2 copies of your medication list before you leave hospital. One list is for you and the other list is for you to take to your GP. You may need further prescriptions so it is important that you return to your GP before your medications run out.\r\n\r\nIf you have any questions about your medications, please ask your doctor, nurse or pharmacist. If you have any questions after you are discharged, you can also ring the hospital pharmacist on (07) 3139 6586 or alternatively ring your GP.\r\n\r\n[\/fusion_text][fusion_text]\r\n<h2>When you have to pay<\/h2>\r\nYou may be charged for goods provided by the pharmacy and for any medical aids required during your stay. You will receive an invoice for medications that were ordered for you, for when you leave hospital. You will need to <a href=\"https:\/\/metronorth.health.qld.gov.au\/tpch\/patients-and-visitors\/paying-your-bill\">pay for these medications<\/a>\u00a0upon discharge.\r\n\r\n[\/fusion_text][fusion_menu_anchor name=\"concerns\" class=\"\" \/][fusion_text]\r\n<h2>Concerns after you leave hospital<\/h2>\r\nContact your GP or 13 HEALTH (13 43 25 84) if you have any problems after you leave the hospital. If you need urgent care call Triple Zero (000) or visit your local Emergency Department.\r\n\r\n[\/fusion_text][fusion_text]\r\n<h2>Modifying your home<\/h2>\r\nAfter your hospital visit, you may need to make some home modifications to carry out daily activities and ensure your safety at home. Our occupational therapist may assess and advise or refer you to a community service for a community home visit.\r\n<h2>Ongoing care after discharge<\/h2>\r\nIf you have any special needs when you return home, please discuss these with your doctor or nurse prior to your discharge. A discharge summary will be sent to your nominated GP and a copy also given to you. This will contain relevant information regarding your stay at The Prince Charles Hospital.\r\n\r\n[\/fusion_text][fusion_menu_anchor name=\"hospital-in-the-home\" class=\"\" \/][fusion_text]\r\n<h2>Hospital in the Home<\/h2>\r\n<a href=\"https:\/\/metronorth.health.qld.gov.au\/tpch\/healthcare-services\/hospital-in-the-home\">Hospital in the Home<\/a>\u00a0is arranged on the ward prior to discharge for ongoing medical care that can be managed in the community. Your ward staff and\/or Discharge Coordinator and treating medical team will arrange this referral for you.\r\n<h2>Follow up appointments (outpatient appointments)<\/h2>\r\nYou may also be given, or sent, an <a href=\"https:\/\/metronorth.health.qld.gov.au\/tpch\/patients-and-visitors\/your-appointment\">outpatient or Private Practice Clinic<\/a>\u00a0appointment following your discharge. It is important that you keep this appointment.\r\n\r\n[\/fusion_text][fusion_menu_anchor name=\"medical-records\" class=\"\" \/][fusion_text]\r\n<h2>Medical records<\/h2>\r\nYour <a href=\"https:\/\/metronorth.health.qld.gov.au\/about-us\/information-access-privacy\/accessing-health-records\">medical record<\/a> is confidential and is accessed only by healthcare professionals directly involved with your treatment.
