The ambulance staff will help make the decision about which hospital to take you to. If you wish to be treated in a separate private health facility, we can facilitate this transfer. We will attempt to provide you with all the information you need. You will have time to read about the research and ask questions. Involvement in research is voluntary and you may withdraw from participation at any time.<\/p>\n"}]},{"other_content":[{"heading":"Discharge and follow up care","content":"<p>When you are <a href=\"https:\/\/metronorth.health.qld.gov.au\/tpch\/patients-and-visitors\/when-you-leave\">discharged<\/a> from Emergency or the hospital, it is important to have a responsible adult carer to take you home.\u00a0Before discharge, you should be given a GP letter detailing your medical condition and appropriate follow up plan. The Prince Charles Hospital is a <span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">630 beds capacity facility and is a<\/span><span style=\"line-height: inherit;\">\u00a0major quaternary referral There are no wards specifically for private patients only. The bed you are allocated depends on how sick you are or what type of illness you have. Your bed allocation may change during your stay. This is the case whether you are a public or private patient. Single room allocation is based on clinical need and in line with various management strategies for at-risk patients.\r\n<h3>Television hire<\/h3>\r\nTelevision hire, including pay TV and movies, is available at your bedside. Please ask your nurse or ward staff for more information. Please consider other patients and keep noise to a minimum. Basic earphones are supplied or you can use your own personal earphones to ensure other patients are not disturbed.\r\n<h3>Call button<\/h3>\r\nIf you require help, you can alert our nursing staff by pressing a green call button located at your bedside. Alternatively, you can use the green call button on the walls in the bedrooms, showers, toilets or lounge areas. your recovery and plan your discharge to leave hospital. Your discharge plan may include extra support services at a different facility, home or follow up appointments. Please ask your nurse to refer you to the appropriate staff or allied health staff member to help you with your discharge needs.\r\n\r\nWe aim to have you discharged by <strong>10.00am<\/strong> on the day you go home. Before leaving, you will need to arrange for someone to collect you from the hospital. The Pharmacy Department will give you 2 copies of your medication list before you leave hospital. One list is for you and the other list is for you to take to your GP. You will receive an invoice for medications that were ordered for you, for when you leave hospital. If you need urgent care call Triple Zero (000) or visit your local Emergency Department.\r\n\r\n[\/fusion_text][fusion_text]\r\n<h2>Modifying your home<\/h2>\r\nAfter your hospital visit, you may need to make some home modifications to carry out daily activities and ensure your safety at home. Our occupational therapist may assess and advise or refer you to a community service for a community home visit.\r\n<h2>Ongoing care after discharge<\/h2>\r\nIf you have any special needs when you return home, please discuss these with your doctor or nurse prior to your discharge. A discharge summary will be sent to your nominated GP and a copy also given to you. Your ward staff and\/or Discharge Coordinator and treating medical team will arrange this referral for you.\r\n<h2>Follow up appointments (outpatient appointments)<\/h2>\r\nYou may also be given, or sent, an <a href=\"https:\/\/metronorth.health.qld.gov.au\/tpch\/patients-and-visitors\/your-appointment\">outpatient or Private Practice Clinic<\/a>\u00a0appointment following your discharge. admitted to the The Prince Charles Hospital you can elect to be treated as a private or public patient.\r\n<h2>Being treated as a public patient<\/h2>\r\nPublic patients, who are eligible for Medicare are not required to pay for their stay in hospital.\u00a0 There may be other costs incurred by public patients including;\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Discharge medications.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>If you are admitted for more than 35 days and are not an acute patient, you will need to pay a daily contribution.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<h2>Being treated as a private patient<\/h2>\r\nPrivate patients can be treated by a doctor of their choice, provided that doctor has a right to private practice at the hospital.\r\n\r\nWorkers compensation, veterans\u2019 affairs and Defence Force patients will have their hospital expenses covered by these third party providers.\r\n\r\nWhen a patient elects to be treated as a private patient, they are provided information about any potential costs at or as soon as possible after admission.\r\n<h2>Health insurance<\/h2>\r\nPatients admitted to The Prince Charles Hospital are given the choice to elect to be treated as a private patient, and use their private hospital insurance to pay for the admission.\r\n\r\nHospital Patient Options Liaison Officers assist patients in determining the level of cover provided in their health insurance, including costs of care cover such as hospital accommodation, medical and diagnostic services and the services provided by your doctor and other medical specialists, such as anaesthetists.\r\n\r\nWhen electing to use private health insurance, you may not be required to pay an excess or co-payment if this applies to your health insurance policy, however if you are transferred to a private hospital on the same day of admission any excess or co-payment discounts may not apply.\r\n\r\nIf you are admitted privately from your specialist\u2019s rooms, excess and co-payments are applicable for this type of planned private admission. Hospital staff will contact you prior to admission to provide an estimate of costs.\r\n<h3>Benefits of using your private insurance<\/h3>\r\nIn many cases you are able to choose your doctor (excluding obstetrics) to treat you as long as your doctor of choice has the right to practice at the hospital and agrees to treat you.\u00a0 Otherwise you will be provided with a specialist at the hospital who will treat you.\u00a0 You can request a single room if your health fund policy covers this however please be aware that while private patients are treated in Queensland Health hospitals, a single room is not guaranteed.
