We employ around 3200 staff who together provide specialised care for over 420,000 people a year.<\/em><\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As the premier cardiac hospital for Queensland and northern New South Wales, we are the hub for specialised services including heart and lung transplants, adult cystic fibrosis, adult congenital heart disease and complex cardiac care. The Queensland Indigenous Cardiac and Respiratory Outreach programs are also based here.<\/p>\n<p>Following a major upgrade of the hospital in 2007, we added general medical and general surgical services, including a general adult emergency medicine service to enhance our strong cardio-thoracic focus.<\/p>\n<p>In 2012, we opened a brand new children\u2019s health service to help make healthcare more convenient and accessible for families living in Brisbane\u2019s northern suburbs. These services include a children\u2019s emergency department, short-stay ward and outpatients service.<\/p>\n<p>The Prince Charles Hospital is involved in numerous national and international research trials and projects. We are the centre for leading clinical and translational research programs, particularly in the fields of cardiac thoracic medicine and surgery, critical care and orthopaedics.
