{"id":10385,"date":"2024-04-24T11:54:49","date_gmt":"2024-04-24T01:54:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/metronorth.health.qld.gov.au\/tpch\/uncategorized\/anzac-day-reflection-for-dr-elizabeth-rushbrook-2"},"modified":"2024-04-24T12:07:28","modified_gmt":"2024-04-24T02:07:28","slug":"dr-elizabeth-rushbrook-reflects-on-anzac-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/metronorth.health.qld.gov.au\/tpch\/news\/dr-elizabeth-rushbrook-reflects-on-anzac-day","title":{"rendered":"Anzac Day a time of reflection for veteran Dr Elizabeth Rushbrook"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"fusion-fullwidth fullwidth-box fusion-builder-row-1 fusion-flex-container nonhundred-percent-fullwidth non-hundred-percent-height-scrolling\" style=\"--awb-border-radius-top-left:0px;--awb-border-radius-top-right:0px;--awb-border-radius-bottom-right:0px;--awb-border-radius-bottom-left:0px;--awb-flex-wrap:wrap;\" ><div class=\"fusion-builder-row fusion-row fusion-flex-align-items-flex-start fusion-flex-content-wrap\" style=\"max-width:89.44rem;margin-left: calc(-4% \/ 2 );margin-right: calc(-4% \/ 2 );\"><div class=\"fusion-layout-column fusion_builder_column fusion-builder-column-0 fusion_builder_column_1_1 1_1 fusion-flex-column\" style=\"--awb-bg-size:cover;--awb-width-large:100%;--awb-margin-top-large:0px;--awb-spacing-right-large:1.92%;--awb-margin-bottom-large:20px;--awb-spacing-left-large:1.92%;--awb-width-medium:100%;--awb-order-medium:0;--awb-spacing-right-medium:1.92%;--awb-spacing-left-medium:1.92%;--awb-width-small:100%;--awb-order-small:0;--awb-spacing-right-small:1.92%;--awb-spacing-left-small:1.92%;\"><div class=\"fusion-column-wrapper fusion-column-has-shadow fusion-flex-justify-content-flex-start fusion-content-layout-column\"><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-1\"><h1>Anzac Day a time of reflection for veteran Dr Elizabeth Rushbrook<\/h1>\n<div id=\"attachment_10384\" style=\"width: 410px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10384\" class=\"size-full wp-image-10384 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/metronorth.health.qld.gov.au\/tpch\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2024\/04\/newsroom-elizabeth-rusbrook-1.jpg\" alt=\"Dr Elizabeth Rushbrook portrait in uniform\" width=\"400\" height=\"600\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 400px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 400\/600;\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-10384\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dr Liz Rushbrook has a decorated military career<\/p><\/div>\n<h4>For Metro North Health Chief Medical Officer of Medical Services Dr Liz Rushbrook, this Anzac Day will be a quiet time of commemoration as she reflects on her career with the Australian Defence Force.<\/h4>\n<p>Dr Rushbrook was studying medicine in Brisbane when she joined the Navy in 1991.\u00a0Those early years studying with around 25 other students located in Brisbane saw them supported by HMAS Moreton located in New Farm.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe digs that are now there are significantly more upmarket than the \u2018warehouse\u2019 building that was there at the time,\u201d Dr Rushbrook said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have many fond memories \u2018destocking\u2019 the wardroom fridge with my colleagues, supporting the cadet unit for parades, camps and short deployments and generally enjoying being a junior officer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After completing her medical training in Queensland, Dr Rushbrook posted to Sydney as a junior doctor.<\/p>\n<p>She served 6 months at HMAS Creswell completing officer training before serving as a Medical Officer at various bases in Sydney as well as on a variety of ships including HMAS <em>Moresby, Torrens, Sydney<\/em> and <em>Manoora. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Dr Rushbrook also worked with the Minor War Vessel Sea training group and managed a short relieving deployment to Timor Leste during Op <em>Tanager<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese were days of providing a mix of primary care, emergency care, sports medicine and mental health support services to one or more ships crews in both exotic and non-exotic settings,\u201d Dr Rushbrook said.<\/p>\n<p>By the early 2000s, Dr Rushbrook was married to husband Andrew, starting their family, and undertaking specialist training in medical administration and a Master of Health Administration.<\/p>\n<p>Work in the Navy included a short stint in Canberra in preventive health division, Officer in Charge of Balmoral Navy Hospital, and the deployable health capability, the then \u2018Maritime Role 2 \u2013 Extended team\u2019 that deployed in Primary Casualty Reception Facility (PCRF) on HMAS <em>Kanimbla<\/em> and <em>Manoora<\/em>. It is these experiences that motivate me to continue serve veterans.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The family moved to Brisbane in early 2016 when Dr Rushbrook transferred to the Reserve. She continued to serve on the Fleet Command board until 2017.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Rushbrook has also been privileged to expand into the service of veterans through joining <em>Disaster Relief Australia<\/em> (DRA) as a Founding Director and five years as Chair. DRA is an organisation formed largely by veterans and built to serve through<br \/>\ndisaster response and recovery.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis Anzac Day will be a time of quiet commemoration and reflection for me \u2013 not only reflecting on my own service or that of my colleagues, but also of the service of those that have gone before me. I am particularly influenced by the service of health providers.
