Metro North Health has been acknowledged for its sustainability excellence in supporting or delivering health services at the 2024 Queensland Health Excellence Awards.<\/h4>\n

Green Metro North’s Sustainability Strategy<\/a> received the Advancing Sustainability award for the impressive range of initiatives to decarbonise Metro North Health and build climate resilience.<\/p>\n

Kellie Williams, Metro North\u2019s Environmental Sustainability and Climate Change Manager, said it was an honour for Metro North\u2019s sustainability strategy and initiatives to be recognised and is excited to see sustainability becoming an increasing area of importance in delivering healthcare.<\/p>\n

\u201cSince we introduced the Green Metro North Sustainability Strategy in 2021, we continue to pilot new initiatives along with putting in place a range of programs and plans to make the business of healthcare more sustainable,\u201d Kellie said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis award reflects our commitment across the six green initiative areas \u2013 transport, energy, water, procurement, food and waste with climate change mitigation a core component of our work.\u201d<\/p>\n

Metro North\u2019s Environment and Waste Team was also Highly Commended in the Advancing Sustainability category for huge improvements in recycling and diverting waste from landfill.<\/p>\n

Cathy Hollis, Environment and Waste Manager, said Metro North has made large-scale achievements towards our goal of increasing recycling and decreasing the amount of waste that is being sent to landfill.<\/p>\n

\u201cOver the past two years, we have reduced total waster being sent to landfill by \u00a0195 tonnes, and at the same time we have increased\u00a0 recycling by 293 tonnes, or 22 per cent,\u201d Cathy said.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
